Obama party stays in home taxed at $300

The owner of a historic Kailua house beside the one the president uses has his property bill cut

The absentee owner of a multimillion-dollar home being used by President Barack Obama's visiting entourage gets one of the biggest residential property tax breaks on Oahu.

Kevin Comcowich, the Houston investment executive who purchased the nearly 5,000-square-foot home for $9 million in January 2008, was charged $300 in property taxes this year.

Last year, Comcowich paid nearly $30,000 in taxes for his 1-acre beachfront spread in Kailua. In 2007 the tab — paid by the previous owner — was about $48,000, according to city records.

Comcowich got the huge break because he was granted a 10-year property tax exemption by the city for his historic residence, built in the 1940s by Harold Castle, a key figure in the development of Kailua. The exemption is designed to encourage the preservation of historic homes.

Like last year, friends of the president are using the Comcowich home while they are vacationing here. Obama and his family are staying in a home next door.

Sounds like a screaming deal. Does Baraq still own his Rezko place in Chitown? Wonder what those taxes are, LOL.

This is great. I guess that since my parents home was built and purchased by them in the early 40’s, it is a historical site and their taxes should be cut also. They will be so glad to hear this.

You know Baraq was on the list of the 10 most corrupt politicians of 2010 along with Hill.

Unless the homeowner somehow illegally influenced the tax authority to pass the law or grant the exemption I don’t see how this is even a story. The homeowner is simply taking advantage of the tax laws as they are written. Any of us would have done the same. If the previous owner was ignorant of the law that was his tough luck.

Sooooo all the other taxpayers will have to pay more money to make up the $29,700 difference that this tax break makes?

There are more & more items that are stacking up to start another revolution. HOw long will it take to light the fires????

Comcowich got the huge break because he was granted a 10-year property tax exemption by the city for his historic residence...... The exemption is designed to encourage the preservation of historic homes.

So he got the break to NOT upgrade or remodel his house for 10 years.

A TEN YEAR EXEMPTION!

Wait, “an exemption” at all!!!

I just paid over 6 grand to my local tax leeches.

They had the nerve to up the tax AGAIN. Same as every other year. Just as if home sales were not in the toilet.

Wisconsin is tax hell.

(On a nicer note....HAPPY NEW YEAR, Nachum and thanks for the pings!)
