Actually, there are CFL bulbs that work with dimmers. I have one. It’s dimmed by an X-10 module.
But they cost more than a regular CFL
I tried one once. Really expensive and only lasted 2 months.
My mistake, I was thinking about 3-way bulbs. It really didn’t work very well.
