LAUREL, Md. -- A would-be robber shot by an Anne Arundel County property/gas station owner early Tuesday has died from his injuries. Anne Arundel County police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said a 29-year-old man entered the store portion of a gas station in the 3400 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road at about 3:30 a.m. The building included a Dunkin' Donuts store along with a Baskin-Robbins.
"The suspect entered the store in the early-morning hours and announced a robbery. He implied that he had a weapon," Mulcahy said. "At a certain point the suspect and the 48-year-old property owner got into some sort of altercation, some struggle if you will, which resulted in the suspect being shot."
No other injuries have been reported. The decedent's identity was not immediately released, pending family notification, and the property owner's name was not released police did not charge him as of Tuesday afternoon.
"Once officers got on scene, they located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the lower extremity. That victim was transported to Prince George's Shock Trauma. He was pronounced deceased there at the hospital," Mulcahy said.
...WBAL-TV 11 News reporter Rob Roblin said authorities are investigating whether security cameras at the store recorded the incident. The case remained under investigation Tuesday afternoon. The businesses reopened at about 1 p.m.
Weren’t there police already on the scene? It was a donut shop after all.
What kind of Darwin award winner would rob a donut shop (or adjoining business)?
Glorious news.

> Werent there police already on the scene? It was a donut shop after all.
Good point.
The perp probably bled out because the cops had to wait for their coffee and donuts to go.
Mama Grizzly Alert!
I love happy endings.
Good shoot
Laurel, Maryland is a safer city today. Good news.
*sniff* *sniff* I just love a happy ending!
Robbed Dunkin’ Donuts?
Is nothing sacred anymore?
Excellent outcome. Bad guy loses.
The big hole was a dead giveaway.
Never bring an implied weapon to a gunfight.
Would someone with a medical background please explain to me exactly where the "lower extremity" is located?
If it's where I think it is, I think death would be a merciful ending. /Sarc
Wasn't this in the old days called a "gutshot"?
Lower extremity? Could be a large caliber round through the femoral artery in the thigh. Bleed out from that one real quick...
I think extremities are limbs, but he would hardly die from a shot to the leg, unless the talented shooter happened to hit an artery. Perhaps it was a shot to the groin.
It’s possible the owner wrestled the gun from the robber, or at least was able to discharge it in the bad guys direction.
