Employers have taken advantage of those lucky enough to still have jobs, to the point of outright abuse. People can only take so much.

Are we a nation of spoiled brats, or what?

I think between this and:

Employers have taken advantage of those lucky enough to still have jobs, to the point of outright abuse. People can only take so much.

this, somewhere lies the truth. With a little of both going on.

Bears repeating. Many companies are screwing over their employees every which way they can and some can’t take it anymore.

I remember working for on abusive boss. I stuck it out even though he was making things so difficult and unpleasant as possible. Of course I was of the mindset that I really didn’t give a $h!t but gave one enough where I did enough to where I wouldn’t get fired and looked for other positions in the mean time which one finally came about. When I left him for a different position in the company, I was pretty happy to move on. I went from a boss where I had to get permission to even to go to the bathroom (not that far but close) to a group where as long as the work got done, no one cared ! The abusive boss was pretty nasty about taking vacation. A year after leaving him, I went to New Zealand for three weeks !

That describes the HQs mentality towards the S. Carolina facility regarding a crooked electronics recycling crowd. I left to pick up contract work which I am happier. That crowd doesn’t fire or layoff people, they just make them miserable enough to quit.

When the head of Ebay sales flies out to meet you and supposedly train you tells you to your face you are designed to fail says a lot about the management. If an AA favorite is desired, that person is supported to no end.

As an employer, I can tell you that you will not keep quality people by abusing them. They will leave for something better. I am a good example of that. I didn’t like my past job so I started my own company. Even in this crappy economy I take care of my folks and they take care of me.
