In her @katiecouric Web show analyzing the trends of 2010, the CBS Evening News anchor made a serious speech (in her serious, deep-thinker glasses) against the deep "seething hatred" against Muslims in America:
I also think sort of the chasm, between, or the bigotry expressed against Muslims in this country has been one of the most disturbing stories to surface this year. Of course, a lot of noise was made about the Islamic Center, mosque, down near the World Trade Center, but I think there wasn't enough sort of careful analysis and evaluation of where this bigotry toward 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide, and how this seething hatred many people feel for all Muslims, which I think is so misdirected, and so wrong -- and so disappointing.
She really winced on that last word. When comedian Mo Rocca said he went to "really fancy schools" and "I cannot tell you five things about Islam," Couric shot back "Maybe we need a Muslim version of The Cosby Show." She continued:
I know that sounds crazy, I know that sounds crazy. But The Cosby Show did so much to change attitudes about African-Americans in this country, and I think sometimes people are afraid of what they don't understand -- like you, Mo.
Rocca said "I think religion should be taught as an academic subject in public schools." Couric said "I totally agree with you." But left unsaid is this: how well do network news people do in explaining the tenets of Islam or any other world religion? If there's great ignorance of Islam in America, Katie Couric has done nearly nothing to solve it -- and nominating Hollywood to solve the problem with a lovable family comedy isn't really taking responsibility.
No one on the set wondered if Couric was being reckless in taking the idea that many Americans had -- that a mega-mosque two blocks from the hole of Ground Zero was insensitive and should merely be located somewhere farther away -- and wildly extrapolating that with "seething hatred" of "1.5 billion Muslims worldwide."
This is not new for Couric. In a quote that made our Best Notable Quotables of 2010, Couric devoted a "Couric & Co." commentary to denouncing the Islamophobes:
It might be Islamophobia, Obamaphobia, or both, but when loud speakers are blaring Born in the USA and signs say No Clubhouse for Terrorists, its clear we arent just talking about a mosque anymore. There is a debate to be had about the sensitivity of building this center so close to Ground Zero. But we can not let fear and rage tear down the towers of our core American values.
Earlier in the show, Couric did talk about other things CBS failed to accomplish on the air:
What about the Nashville floods? Larinda Sue [sp] on Twitter asks if the Nashville floods will make our list, and it made all of us think, as w're preparing for the show...what other stories were underreported? The Nashville floods were really underreported. Anything else come to mind that we should have been paying attention to that we didn't? I would say we're probably not paying enough attention to Iraq. Does anyone else agree with that?
Martin agreed and said "We're in danger in the media, but also as a people, of becoming inured to war, sort of a permanent war," and "because there's no draft, a lot of us don't have skin in the game, as they say."
What do you call CBS Evening News?

“Honeys I’m home!”
In this hilarious episode, the family heads out for a relaxing Sunday bombing markets and throwing acid in the faces of girls found in school.
Funny that there is no “seething hatred” of Buddhists, or Hindus. Or Zoroastrians. Or Bahai. Nobody freaks out when Tibetans get on the plane with them. Somehow we manage to get along with Shintos and Confucians and nobody thinks anything about it.
Out of all the religions in the world, there is just one that doesn’t seem to be able to coexist with anyone without blowing them up or lopping off their heads.
Allah in the Family?.................
This is why the unit measurement of the weight of sh1t is called a “Couric”.
Cosby didn’t change anyone’s mids about blacks. Cosby’s show was fantasy. The black family portrayed is hardly reality. Not even blacks believed the Cosby show as being real. Less than 1 in 5 black families have a married mom and dad. Much less doctor and lawyer dad and mom.
Second Katie must not watch anything on PBS, they run such pro-muslim drivel it’s ridiculous.
Finally one thing the left can never get (except when dealing with the people THEY hate - Christian conservatives) - is that they themselves not only practice discrimination and ignore it, but that discrimination itself can be based on sound logic, common sense and information, or on poor/incorrect information.
Does Katie live in the slums? Does she live in a high crime area? In a crummy apartment building with no security? Does she walk the streets of NYC alone in the middle of the night, being an older, small white woman? Or does she practice discrimination (ie making choices based on good information and common sense)?
Stupid Katie al-Couric. She doesn't even know Born In The USA is an anti-American song.
What a newshole.
Katie Couric: Maybe We Need a Muslim Version of The Cosby Show
Does anyone seriously think there would be anyting humorous about a Muslim version of the Cosby show? Persons from that group are singularly without a sense of humor. Instead they are judgemental and intolerant of everyone else. If anya ttempt was made at humor and at Islam’s expense, the entire cast. writers and producers would be killed or the production place would be bombed.
As a non-Muslim, I could think of some humorus satire, but it would never pass the Mullah’s censorship test.
Katie is such a dunce.
Since Katie’s contract is coming to an end to be a pretend news anchor, maybe she can play a woman who gets her nose and ears cut off because she doesn’t want to get anally raped by her husband who misses his sheep. Or maybe she can play a woman who gets a bullet in her head because she showed her ankle. Maybe she should give her daughters to islam since she thinks so highly of that cult. Let them be one of 10 wives to be disciplined at the whim of the master.
Americans are not the problem you traitor. ISLAM is the world’s problem that needs to be dealt with.
The Gap Band - You dropped a bomb on me.
In this piece she reveals her little more than adolescent speaker/journalistic skills with her "sort of" lead ins to points she wants to make.
This woman is the most highly paid moron east of Hollywood and north of DC. Her analytical and speaking abilities make the much maligned Sarah Palin look like an Ivy genius.
I don't watch her and do not even like to read about her pronouncements because they are so shallow, and presented in such juvenile terms while she wears her wise(ass) glasses and tries to be as wise as the "wise latino" in our SC.
