Katie Couric: ‘Maybe We Need a Muslim Version of “The Cosby Show”‘
Mediaite ^ | December 31, 2010 | Ray Rahman

As 2010 comes to a close, the media industry is taking its annual breather to reflect upon all the things it had to cover in the past year. Katie Couric, in her CBSNews.com review of 2010, highlighted the controversy surrounding the Park51 project. “The bigotry expressed against Muslims in this country has been one of the most disturbing stories to surface,” she told her panel. In that media narrative, she saw “a seething hatred many people feel for all Muslims,” which she theorized could be remedied by another, more lighthearted narrative: “Maybe we need a Muslim version of The Cosby Show.”

She came to the situationally comedic solution after offering this take on American Islamophobia:

I also think sort of the chasm between, or, the bigotry expressed against Muslims in this country has been one of the most disturbing stories to surface this year. Of course, a lot of noise was made about the Islamic Center, mosque, down near the World Trade Center, but I think there wasn’t enough sort of careful analysis and evaluation of where this bigotry toward 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide, and how this seething hatred many people feel for all Muslims, which I think is so misdirected, and so wrong—and so disappointing.

So could funny Muslims in even funnier sweaters be the answer? “I know that sounds crazy,” she said, “But The Cosby Show did so much to change attitudes about African-Americans in this country, and I think sometimes people are afraid of what they don’t understand—like you, Mo.” She was referring to Daily Show veteran and NPR regular Mo Rocca, who was present for the discussion. A Harvard alumnus, Rocca shamefully confessed that despite having attended “really fancy schools,” he knows basically “nothing about Islam.”

These people are insane and suicidal. They honestly would replace the Christian paradigm with one which believes evil is good and good is evil. A belief system that couldn’t even invent the wheel, much less a car.

These muzlims want women to be slaves, fascist men to rule, and to have numerous wives under their thumb, no equality for minorities, to be able to use boys sexually which they don’t consider homosexuality, but they secretly are because they have a visceral hatred for women.

Obviously, she wants to be beheaded, then, like those muslims “label” as infidels or blasphemers—Katie dear, that is you! You would be even uglier without a head. These Marxists are so dumb—the KGB are right—they are just useful idiots. They will get their fascists in power and then be eliminated. I don’t care if you are, Katie, but I do care for my family and friends, you bast*rd.

Islamic extremists threaten female newscasters with beheading

Islamic extremists in the Gaza Strip have threatened to behead female news broadcasters if they don't adhere to the strict Islamic dress code and cover their faces. A group calling itself the "Righteous Swords of Islam," believed to have links to al Qaeda, accused the women of acting immorally.

Fatwa to working Muslim women - Don't talk to male colleagues

The fatwa says it is unlawful for Muslim women to do any job in government or private institutions that entails men and women working together and women having to talk to men without the veil.

Definitely the stupidest words ever out of her mouth. Mo is a nickname, means Mohamed. Mohamed is an arabic name meaning “blow myself to pieces”.

Holy crap.

Does she not get that she, personally, will be utterly devastated by Sharia Law?

And yet she pushes for it.

Katie doesn’t understand that intolerance for certain cultural attitudes isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But then it’s always blame America first with these Marxist clowns.

Humor is a foreign concept to Muslims, I think. Not that they don't laugh, but what they laugh about seems fairly primitive by our standards. I saw a show on some network, possibly Comedy Central, that set out to bridge the gap between Jews and Arabs by presenting comics from both groups. The comics were all unknowns, to make the playing field even. The results were as follows: The Jewish comedians were almost all funny, some of them very funny. Their humor was subtle, sophisticated, and poignant. The Arabs were trying, and they were on the right track, but they were mostly not funny. Their humor was over the top, exaggerated, repetitive, sometimes crude, too personal to be universally funny, and self-conscious. It was as if the whole concept of humor was something they had just discovered.

That said, I think the idea of a Muslim Cosby show should not be dismissed. Hopefully they'll have Jewish writers, though.

Now that I think about it, at least one of the comedians was from Iran, so I guess it was Jews and Muslims, rather than Jews and Arabs.

Katie Couric is proof that U.Va. is indeed “Mr. Jefferson’s biggest mistake”.
