WASHINGTON -- Surviving the deadliest shooting massacre in U.S. history wasn't enough to make Colin Goddard an advocate for stricter gun laws. Only when he watched another rampage play out on TV two years later did the Virginia Tech graduate realize he had to speak out.
"That took me back to the day like none other," Goddard said of another troubled gunman who killed 14 at an immigration center in Binghamton, N.Y. "I was watching the body count rise and I was like, this is just the same stuff that is happening to another family now. ... I was like, I've got to get involved. I've got to do something about this."
What Goddard did was join the nation's largest gun-control organization, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. At first, he made public-service spots, speaking for the 32 people slain by a deranged gunman on the campus of Virginia Tech. But he also spoke for the 32 people killed every day in gun violence, people whose deaths don't conjure a million hits on Google.

If I’m not mistaken, the “gun free campus” law even made it a crime for off duty police officers to carry their firearms while on the campus. The only way a state legislature passes a law like that is strictly on EMOTION!

Making things illegal eliminates their negative effects. Like drugs, for example. They’re illegal and no one uses them, buys them, or manufactures them. I mean, let’s consider Oxycodine. It’s a highly controlled prescription drug that can be misused as a narcotic, but since it is controlled, that doesn’t happen. The same thing with guns. If you control the legal use, there will be no illegal use! Or prostitution—a practice unheard of anywhere that it’s illegal. And human sex trafficking—doesn’t exist.
Sure, it’s probably more likely to get hit by lightning than killed in a mass shooting like this, but that’s why we should seriously consider making lightening illegal, too.
Besides, it’s a known fact that I, a liberal, can make decisions about your life better than you can. You are too stupid to make your own choices, so you better thank me for keeping you safe.
