An 18-year-old refugee claimant who says his life could be at risk if he's sent back to Mexico was to be deported Saturday - amid what his lawyer called an unusually high degree of secrecy.

Daniel Garcia, whose application for a temporary stay of his deportation order was dismissed by the Federal Court on Friday, was set to board a plane back to Mexico, although his lawyer said the government has not disclosed when the flight would take place.

Lawyer Joel Sandaluk said Garcia's deportation itinerary was "blacked out," something he called "very unusual."

"I've been doing this for 10 years and I've never seen this once," he said. He said he suspected Garcia's flights details were withheld because of the amount of attention the story had attracted.

The Grade 11 student arrived in Canada as a minor in 2007 under the guardianship of his elder sister, Brenda. The two applied for refugee status, arguing that they faced persecution and possibly death in Mexico because Brenda is gay. They said they had experienced discrimination and homophobic violence there.

They said they had experienced discrimination and homophobic violence there. And yet Mexico recently just passed new laws allowing for same sex marriages.

Hard to believe that Canada is now rejecting fraudulent refugee visa applicants from Mexico.

Close to 100% of them have always been fraudulent.
I wonder what changed? Taxpayer anger?

I’d think that this would be an easy way out of most Asian or African nations; as disgusting as it may seem, I think when applicants use deviance as their reason for seeking asylum, it is time for our INS to say “prove it”.

Imagine being the gubmint worker that has to verify “gayness”...

They’d better find a “gay gene”, because without it a lot of America’s young “hetero” bachelors are going to start getting “gay married” just for their room-mate/fraternity brother’s benefits. There is nothing to dissuade 2 70 year-old men to “marry” just in time for one of them to get the other’s Social Security survivor benefits when one goes to meet his maker...
