A Lover Of God
January 4, 2011

In a brief biography of St. Francis of Assisi, G. K. Chesterton begins with a glimpse into the heart of this unique and compassionate man born in the 12th century. Chesterton writes: “As St. Francis did not love humanity but men, so he did not love Christianity but Christ. . . . The reader cannot even begin to see the sense of a story that may well seem to him a very wild one, until he understands that to this great mystic his religion was not a thing like a theory but a thing like a love-affair.”

When Jesus was asked to name the greatest command in the Law, He replied, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment” (Matt. 22:37-38). The questioner wanted to test Jesus, but the Lord answered him with the key element in pleasing God. First and foremost, our relationship with Him is a matter of the heart.

If we see God as a taskmaster and consider obedience to Him as a burden, then we have joined those of whom the Lord said, “I have this against you, that you have left your first love” (Rev. 2:4).

The way of joy is to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and mind.

Oh, help me, Lord, to take by grace divine
Yet more and more of that great love of Thine;
That day by day my heart may give to Thee
A deeper love, and grow more constantly. —Mountain

Put Christ first and you’ll find a joy that lasts.

Read: Matthew 22:34-40

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. —Matthew 22:37
Bible in a year:
Genesis 10-12; Matthew 4

Thank you for tonights thread Ms Lauren.
Good evening, everyone.
I have not been here much, I have been having a lot of pain in my knee and lower back.
The good news is, I don’t need a knee replacement (at least not now)

The not so good news, is I have Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy.

That is when the brain receives too many pain impulses, and overwhelms the body with pain from those signals.
Something goes awry in the brain.

The Doctor gave me this to help me understand it better:
“The major characteristic of reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) is severe pain and great sensitivity of the affected limb to even the slightest touch. RSD is a relatively uncommon problem that can follow trauma, surgery, or any painful condition. The inciting event can be very minor, and is usually disproportionate to the reaction that follows it. The “sympathetic” portion of the name implies that the autonomic nervous system plays a role in the development of RSD.

In addition to severe pain, associated with a burning sensation and great sensitivity, the affected extremity (usually a hand or foot, rarely the entire extremity) may be swollen, warm, red, and excessively sweaty in the beginning. In some patients the affected limb may be cold and bluish in the beginning. The patients protect the affected limb, avoiding moving it and touching objects with it. In time, the hand or foot may become cold and dry, and the swelling becomes hard. Eventually, after 3 to 12 months, the skin becomes thin (atrophic) and appears smooth and shiny. The underlying muscles also become atrophic, and the limb cannot extend (stretch) all the way because of scarring down of the muscles and tendons, called flexion contracture.

Also important is that the bones of the limb eventually lose mineral — that is, they become osteoporotic.”

It is believed that this stems from the bad arthritis and surgery in that knee.
so...
Meds have been adjusted, (and I’m a bit loopy right now) and PT might be needed..
It’s always something!

Good evening, ((((Lauren))))!!

Soooo good to see you tonight! I’m a bit late so hope I haven’t
missed you. I was talking to my son and wishing him a happy
birthday (the 5th)...and he was telling me about his upcoming
drive to Tyndale AFB later this week to attend NCO Academy.
He’s driving because he doesn’t want the TSA perverts touching him! LOL!

Hope you have a good first week of the new year! :)

The U.S. Naval Observatory operates two Master Clock facilities. The primary facility, in Washington, D.C. maintains 57 HP/Agilent/Symmetricom 5071A-001 high performance cesium atomic clocks and 24 hydrogen masers. The alternate master clock, at Schriever Air Force Base, maintains 12 cesium clocks and 3 masers. The observatory also operates two rubidium atomic fountain clocks.

The lyrics from Chicago come to mind - "Does anyone really know what time it is?"

I managed to make a few “road trips” when I was in the Navy - maybe I should correct that with “sailing trips” to WESTPAC. The Pacific is a mighty BIG ocean. Took us 20+ days to cross from San Diego to Japan, Okinawa and the Philipines.

Salute to all aboard here at the Canteen.

Good morning, Everyone. Good morning to our

military, our allies, and their families

(another unique design)

Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities.
Oh good, it's a local trip so we can take the bike this time.

~ Today... Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 40s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.

~ Tonight...Mostly clear. Lows in the upper 20s. West winds 5 to 10 mph.

Well as you've probably guessed I was pretty busy at work yesterday. Fingers crossed that today will be a little slower. At the top of my list for today is to catch up on one report, which didn't get done before I left for the holidays.

Time to make my rounds. But, you stay right where you are. Don't touch that dial – I’ll be watching!

So, come on in and sit for a while. There's always plenty of coffee,

pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM
