New Speaker Vows to Share Powera Tricky Proposition
JANUARY 4, 2011
By NAFTALI BENDAVID And PATRICK O'CONNOR
When John Boehner takes over one of the most powerful jobs in Washington this week, he says his first order of business is to make himself less powerful.
On Wednesday the new speaker of the House of Representatives plans to offer a package of rule changes that, he says, will give minority-party members more of a say and decentralize power. In short, Ohio Republican Mr. Boehner is promising he'll be a different figure from many speakers throughout historyfrom Republican Joseph Cannon a century ago to his immediate predecessor, Democrat Nancy Pelosiwho kept a tighter leash.
But there's a reason so many speakers try to keep close control: It works.

I never liked Boner.
We have been had.
Any response I make here is likely to get me banned, so I’ll walk on by.
So the RATS deny all power to the pubbies, and the pubbies make nice in return.
Now there's an idea.
BIG ASSED MISTAKE!!
Bending over backwards for the Democrats. What is screwing up with Boehner’s mind? Democrats NEVER share power. Only the Stupid Party does!
And this is beyond stupid.
So, Johnny Booy decided to bend over and grab his ankles. Wow, that’s leadership...
Commence crying in 5....4....3.....
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Is that how the GOP leadership wants to begin their reign in the House?
Come on Charlie Brown... Lucy will hold the football for you again.
Yup. We don’t know how to win.
That’s what we did the last time, and the Dumbs see it as a sign of weakness.
Which it is.
This idiot didn’t learn a damned thing while under Pelosi’s thumb for four years.
What a dumbass! Good grief, after Nancy plowed him under repeatedly he’s willing to hand her an olive branch. Jackass!
We’ve all heard this tune before. Why am I not surprised that Boehner is covering Trent Lott’s one hit wonder?
This is the exact reason I wanted a tough guy with cajones as Speaker, I wanted Michele Bachmann.
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
The American people didn't put you there to share power, but to take it away from the treasonous whack-jobs who have ruined this nation.
Think of the Democrats as Lucy, holding the football, telling Charlie Brown (the Republicans): "Don't worry - I won't pull the ball away this time!"
NO! NO! NO! Will Republicans Never learn. We tried this once before and look where it got us.
We didn’t work to bring CHANGE to Washington to SHARE!!! Is NO ONE listening??????????
I’d like to know what Plosi shared with the republicans!!!!! It was going to be her way or no way.
They’re all on the same team. It’s good cop, bad cop. Ruling Class elitists playing pat-a-cake.
See how quickly they can do nothing? These dorks have no fire, and couldn’t care less about shrinking the government.
Just what I thought. Republicans never change and Conservatives never learn.
Dear Boener.. You’re an idiot.
OK folks...like my husband said..lets jump on this..letter/email writing time is RIGHT NOW!
I had a bad feeling about this guy when I heard that he was elected speaker.
I’m not sure that I like him and I sure don’t trust him.
This is the same God-d@mned BullSh#t that they have done every time they took power since the '94 contract with America.
I'm done with the Party. Going to register Constitution or Tea Party if they let me.
Worthless, clueless, political elite scum.
Bears repeating, in big letters.
What is it with these stupid SOBs once they get to Washington?
I’m sure he would like to be more of a referee than the boss of the House. Boehner forgets the Speaker’s office is a partisan position and has always been.
In the UK and Canada the Speaker is expected to be impartial and let every one have their say. It hasn’t worked here.
Hey bro. Long time no see. Looks like the Repubs want extinction. We will have to fill the vacuum with the Tea Party.
That seems to be the default spelling, someone is trying to tell us something.
Yeah, and I remember when the first Bush extended his hand to Democrats upon inauguration and George Mitchell spent the next 4 years working non-stop to embarrass and undermine Bush.
Geez, do these guys EVER learn?
Well thats just mot going to work.
Whats your plan B John?
Trent Lott redux.
When good compromises with evil, it is only evil that can profit.
Pelosi and Democrats just spent the last 2 years humiliating Republicans culminating with her gavel walk and now we are talking about sharing power!!!
Boehner is going down the same road that the last Repub majority went down...and it cost them dearly. The Tea Parties and the People need to be all over this. I am writing all my reps (House and Senate) to tell them that any one of them who ponies up to this bar is a target for defeat.
We need reps who will stand on principle and the constitution ALONE. If the other side wants to come join that party...fine...otherwise, no sharing, no pats on the back, no shae and a grin, no behind the scenes friendliness, no joint singing tours, etc., etc.
If they are not there to support the constitution and its principles down the line, they are internal enemies of the people. The Repub leadership had best make THAT its mantra, post haste.
Here’s my email to him:
Mr. Speaker, It has been reported that you feel the need to “SHARE” power with the democrats...If this is true, might I remind you that this was not why you were put into the speakers position! DO NOT share any power with them. The left had many closed door meetings without you and did not SHARE any power with the GOP.
Please be part of the solution and NOT PART OF THE PROBLEM!
keep it polite but firm. (it was hard, wanted to use some "highly technical golf terms" on him)
