CA: Brown Blows Off Labor

Public-employee unions spent tens of millions getting Jerry Brown elected, but the new governor gave them the cold shoulder yesterday after his inauguration.

The Chron reports that the 18,000-member Orange County Employees Association had expected Brown to speak at its free hot-dog fest at the capitol, dubbed “The People’s Inauguration Party,” but the new governor only showed up for a few moments, grabbed some dogs, and scurried off.

During his inaugural speech, Brown told unions not to expect any favors and referred to a “philosophy of loyalty” that calls for a “devotion to California above and beyond our narrow perspectives.”

I don’t know.

California is a mess. There is all kinds of grandstanding and political stunts.

I really don’t expect much to change out there. Taxes and spending will both increase just like always. Liberal politicians will keep getting re-elected. And there will be all kinds of pressure on Washington for “emergency bailouts”.

I’ll bet Brown will surprise everyone. He’s really an honest man and I’m thinking out to do the right thing - especially since it’s his last time in office and running again may be out of the question especially after all that CA will be put through in the next 4 years.

Perhaps CA will listen this time.

Taxes and spending will both increase just like always.

Without question, those days are quickly coming to an end for government at all levels.

Jerry Brown may surprise us all... like Nixon going to China.

He was dead set against PROP 13 in the 70s, but turned on a dime when it passed.

Maybe he learned something in Oakland.....

Brown installed the unions in our state government, so this is only for show.
He is totally in the pocket of unions.

I’ll bet Brown will surprise everyone. He’s really an honest man

In his youth he considered the entering the Priesthood.

I just want this state back on track, and I'll give credit to whoever can do it.

It doesn’t really matter what Brown or the unions do in the days and months ahead. They can either hate each other or have a love-in on the front lawn of the Governor’s mansion, and it won’t matter.

California is about to be confronted with this strange invisible thing called REALITY.

And the US Congress is now in the hands of folks who won’t be jumping at the opportunity to bail them out.

Reality is walking this way, carrying a big stick.

I hope your right...Wouldn't it be something to see Brown come out more conservative then most of the Republicans? He's already sounds more conservative than Schwarzenegger.

Like I said up thread, Brown is old, and does not seem concerned about being popular...He knows coming into a disaster and making it worse will put his legacy up there with public pay phones...

On the flip side, turning an epic government sponsored disaster around, would play well for him.

At this point, leftist Brown sounds inordinately more conservative than Schwarzenegger ever did.

Gotta admit, I've thought the same thing. If he truly doesn't care about re-election, he may be able to fix the place. We'll see.

The Feds can print money. States cannot. When reality strikes, each state simply must stop spending money.

Brown knows his legacy won't get anymore chances...This is it. Lets hope him turning his back, walking out on his own inauguration and basically ignoring the bloated corrupt government union party goers, are a good sign.

As popular as public unions are lately I don't think its realistic to draw any conclusions from Brown's refusal to go straight from his inauguration to a union rally.

But it was fun to see how miffed the local news people were by Brown's rude behavior. "He stopped to get a hot dog --- where hundreds had waited for hours --- and left without so much as a THANK YOU!! Hmpf!!"

LOL. He really is totally lacking in class, rude and brash, like it or leave it. No surprise here. He called Meg Whitman a "whore" and refused to apologize when she asked him to point blank.

“The People’s Inauguration Party,”

Governor Mini-Me, Mark Dayton here in Minnesota, named his almost exactly the same thing. The socialists can't even have an original thought.

"Will a liberal Democrat be more conservative than the Republican fraud Schwarzenegger"

Probably.

But only because he has no choice.

Not that they won't try...Brown has already announced that he won't cut schools if the electorate approves an extension of the "temporary" tax increases enacted 18 months ago.

In other words, if the middle class won't give him what he wants he will hurt them. Still, that only adds up to about $5bil of the $28bil shortfall. The rest will be cuts.

Hell, we can't get dims or pubs to cut $23bil in Washington and they have a LOT more to work with.

I heard there was line of people waiting to shake his hand, and he just left....Funny stuff..

He really is totally lacking in class, rude and brash, like it or leave it.

I am personally am a little sick of the phony political smiles, perfect hair liars, pie in the sky promises and so-called respectability of career level government insiders and politicians, posing for pictures at garden parties while the entire country is going belly up.

No surprise here. He called Meg Whitman a "whore" and refused to apologize when she asked him to point blank.

Can I be honest?

Whitamn couldn't buy the governor's job with 150 million of her own dollars...She was a typical arrogant corporate drone bucket mouth, and illegal alien hiring republican phony.

The real proof Jerry is serious is if he tries to ditch A.B. 32 - the Global Warming bill which allows the California Air Resources Board to enforce Kyoto-like regulations on all Californians.
