ABC News: Michele Bachmann considering presidential bid
http://www.startribune.com ^ | January 5, 2011 | STAFF REPORT

ABC News says U.S. Rep. Michelle Bachmann is considering running for president and will confer this month with GOP officials in Iowa about her prospects in that early caucus state.

Citing an unnamed "source close to the three-term congresswoman," the network said in a report Wednesday that Bachmann will hold "multiple meetings to seek advice from political forces there and party elders close to the caucus process before coming to a final decision regarding a potential presidential run."

Bachmann, a Republican who represents Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District, has roots in Iowa, having been born in Waterloo, Iowa.

Bachmann also is the headliner at an Iowans for Tax Relief PAC fundraiser Jan. 21 in Des Moines, ABC noted.

Her trip to Iowa will be her third in eight months. Last week, she attended a GOP fundraiser in Michigan.

Asked about Bachmann's presidential intentions, her chief of staff, Andy Parrish, told ABC News: "Nothing is off the table. The congresswoman is excited about her first trip to Iowa this year."

I think you’re working yourself up into too much a lather over this.

I agree it can be a problem. Well, at least “The Event” period itself is a problem. Not the whole pregnancy, necessarily (although it’s worse for an “old woman”).

But Bachmann (the better, I believe) is 54 and Palin is 46. Palin is riskier; Bachmann not much of a risk at all.

Perhaps they’d be willing to state publicly they are post-menopausal, or had surgery, or even are on “The Pill”. It’s touchy to ask, but it is rather important.

In any case, Bachmann especially has almost nil chance of being pregnant.

****Opinion of previously pregnant woman*****

Ya, you may be right. Maybe it’s not a big deal but I can’t see an easy way for Michelle to counter this problem if it’s brought up by the left wing media. Most of the time the media is biased at best but in this case truth would be on their side, a scary thought.

How do you explain that you could still handle leading the country during an extreme crisis when you are pregnant and potentially on bed rest.

My fear is that it has not been talked about and when it is people will go holy cow we simply can’t take the chance. Heck if a male has any type of Heart issue it’s usually a deal breaker.

I can’t believe I just read what you just said.

I am a guy and women handle pressure much better than any man. Women multitask. We need a woman POTUS no one can clean up a budget and run things better than a woman. You must not have wisdom or life experience or you are Archie Bunker on a computer.

Why is it if a man runs people think he is the man?
Men can’t relieve stress women can.

I doubt either woman would not make appropriate arrangements about their reproductive capabilities. How many Down’s Syndrome moms get pregnant again? Both women are over 45 and there’s less than a 1% chance of either getting pregnant again without a fertility specialist. Apparently pregnancy didn’t slow Palin down enough for anyone to have to fill in for her. Pregnancies are far more predictable than are heart attacks and strokes.

If Sarah Palin decides not to run, she loses my support and admiration. I believe she has a duty to run. We need her leadership.

This whole thing really has me worried because there is no way in my mind that Michele would run if Palin was also running.

I believe we are witnessing the end of Palin’s career as a national leader. she will never be able to get the level of support she has now back. its sad

I like both women equally. I’m hoping Paul Ryan jumps in too. And Herman Cain. The more conservative voices during the primaries the better. This might be our best field of candidates in years. (Of course Krauthammer & Rove will be whining all the way.)

Who’s to say the 2012 GOP or TeaParty ticket can’t be two bright, beautiful, intelligent women? Palin/Bachmann 2012. I’d vote for that ticket in a heartbeat.

Bachmann, Palin and DeMint have been on the front lines fighting Obama and the Democrats. That's qualification number one for me.

May the best candidate jump into the race and may the second and third best candidate not.

Slow down there oh wise one. Unfortunately history completely contradicts your position. Try this little exercise. Start naming all the great female military leaders throughout history and see how many you can come up with. Are you forgetting the President is the Commander of the armed forces? Next, name the great female world leaders and see how many you can come up with. Lastly name all the female presidents of the United States! Clearly your notion that females handle pressure better and multitask better and make better leaders has been overlooked by most everyone in the US and everyone in the history of all mankind for that matter.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_women%27s_participation_in_warfare

Hapshepsut (conquest of upper and lower Egypt), Magaret Thatcher (Falklands war, although this was a defensive war, and it was pretty much British government policy anyway), Catherine the Great (fought various wars with the Ottomans and other places near Russia), and Isabella of Spain

Saint Hedugis, (female) king of Poland, led an expedition to Red Ruthenia to re-establish polish rule there (Red Ruthenia was inherited by Poland, then, as we were in union with Hungary, our common king transfered it to Hungary illegaly). It was not quite a war, though, not too much fighting.

Catherine the Great not only fought wars against Turkey, but also quashed an uprising against russian dominance in Poland and partaged it thrice.

Maria Theresa of Austria annected large parts of polish mountainous region, leading to the first partage of Poland.

Empress Elisabeth fought some wars as well.

Queen Tamara of Georgia started a lot of wars and made Georgia the biggest and most powerful in its history..

Mary, the Mother of God defeated Satan the serpant.

My wife points out that Palin worked right through her pregnancy and never let up except for a week at the end. She was even flying back on a six-hour trip from a Governor’s Conference while she was in labor!

I think that many, many women work throughout their pregnancies, up until only a week of two before or after. I also believe that a woman who becomes elected President can find a way to prevent getting pregnant while in office. Most working women in America will probably see this as a non-issue, and more than a bit discriminatory. Maybe the discussion of the issue will help men realize that the possibility is both more remote, and less scary, than they fear.

Do we forbid men of a certain cholesterol reading from serving, because they *might* have a heart attack under stress?

I love the fact that finally, we might actually run some real conservatives and the conversation in 2012 will be about American exceptionalism, forward motion, economic growth, oil/gas, freedom of the individual, changing the tax code forever, and following the constitution just to name a few.

If our field is more hand-picked elite Republican Progressives I’m sitting the PRESIDENTIAL election out.

The MSM news pundits last night called themselves PROGRESSIVES in they’re meltdown.

The public has figured out they’re code. PROGRESSIVE=COMMUNIST

Bachmann will tell the UN to go play and downsize biggov, the DOEduc. (AKA cut propaganda progressive funds)ANWR will open and we will have 1 dollar gas and jobs. The people will win over NWO progressives. Alinsky and ACORN won’t work. Obama is evil so he is lawyering up and thinks he will win. It is too late for him to put the fake moderate Clinton face on.

Our country has a chance!
