Wakefield's paper linking MMR vaccine and autism a fraud
LA Times ^ | January 5, 2011 | By Thomas H. Maugh II, Los Angeles Times

Posted on 01/05/2011 8:25:06 PM PST by Melissa 24

Dr. Andrew Wakefield's 1998 report in the journal Lancet purporting to show a link between autism and the vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella "was based not on bad science but on a deliberate fraud," says Dr. Fiona Godlee, editor in chief of BMJ, formerly the British Medical Journal, in an editorial published Tuesday. The editorial accompanies the first of three reports by British investigative journalist Brian Deer that document how Wakefield manipulated data in his attempts to prove something that he "knew" before he started his research. Most of the information in the reports has been published previously, but the recent publication of the General Medical Council's 6-million-word transcript of the hearing in which Wakefield's license to practice medicine in Britain was revoked allowed the editors of BMJ to peer-review Deer's reports and confirm the extensive falsifications in the original Lancet paper.

*snip*

"The sad thing is, his work has influenced a lot of people," said Dr. Peter Hotez of the Sabin Vaccine Institute in New York City. "If you do a Google search of vaccines, so much of what you see are anti-vaccine sentiments using Wakefield's work as a basis for it, and as a result, children are having vaccines withheld. It's tragic."

Ah, so according to your “logic,” BIG PHARMA (you forgot to put it in all caps this time) must have bribed the parents of the children in the study to say now that Wakefield misrepresented what they reported. Any reasonable person will have seen by now that his results were not in fact “reached by logic and reason and science,” but by fraud in support of his own financial interests (lawsuits and patents).

Proven? That can be debated. The evidence is more “tainted” than the Wakefield study was supposed to be.

Big Pharma would be destroyed if there was any link between Autism and vaccinations. That is why they have a fascist lock on all discourse that comes out on the topic. They own Saul Alinsky and what they did to Wakefield is an abomination.

Why did they not vilify and destroy the so-called scientists that are promoting this global warming fraud?????????? Oh, why yes, they are pushing the cultural Marxist line. They hide the lies—it fits their agenda.

Why destroy Wakefield? He dared give an opinion that differed with their allowed groupthink. Poor Wakefield vs. billion dollar industry......That was sure a fair hearing, I am sure.

DEBATE! That is what science USED to do...before the cultural Marxists infiltrated in the 30’s.....Why crush all dissent? Fascism. Groupthink to control the masses.....oooooohhhh Think of the control over people they could have by mass vaccination programs.

Too frightening to think of??? It has been discussed by major scientists.

Mass sterilization
Mass poisoning,
Kill off all the elderly....
hmmmmmm...in all of history it has always been government that has killed off millions of their own citizens. Couldn’t happen again though...oh no. Not with those sweet humane Marxists with death panels in office. Trust government.....good idea? No thank you! And Big Pharma has bought off all the politicians so they mandate their poisons and use our babies and young teenagers as guinea pigs. Disgusting.

What made polio so rare? (As it still is.)

How sad. It is an overload of toxins, I am sure

The evidence is absolutely overwhelming that it's genetic.

I have some acquaintances with severely autistic kids and it's an awful tragedy. The problem with the genetic explanation is that it doesn't allow parents anyone to blame, really. Which is why it's so resisted.

If there is an exotic explanation for the rise in autism, it's the one in the old Wired article from some years back - that geeks are marrying each other. The people I know with autistic kids are some of the smartest people I know.

Detox/chelation can be hard on the kidneys. Be very careful.

It can also be hard on your wallet.

Often those who shriek the loudest about greedy doctors and drug makers are at the forefront of looting money from desperate patients with useless and dangerous quack cures.

Or is Autism another over-diagnosed issue like so many “syndromes”?

Bingo.

Our son received the MMR triple dose vaccine at 12 months. This was far too early. He is high functioning, but definitely autistic. Right after those injections, we started seeing changes in him, but didn’t put any of together until much later.

That's about when signs of autism appears. That's about when my 54-year-old brother started showing signs of his autism -- and he wasn't vaccinated.

So - what is causing the apparent dramatic rise in diagnosed Autism?

The definition of autism has been dramatically broadened.

I have a healthy 16 year old daughter and 14 year old son who have had no vaccinations. I haven’t regretted not getting them vaccinated for a second. Way the risks, then make a decision:

Please explain to me why after these vaccinations were used that certain children went autistic. Timing?

Yes, timing. These vaccinations are typically given right about the same time that autism presents itself strongly enough for people to actually notice. Especially parents -- when our twins were diagnosed with autism, we were the last ones to suspect or believe it. Both my parents and my wife's had suspected it for months beforehand, but we wouldn't "see" it until after their second birthday.

BTW, Mrs. kevkrom is an epidemiologist and her professional opinion (based on her own independent analysis long before the studies were disowned/debunked) is that Wakefield was a fraud and that his recommendations didn't even match his supposed "findings".

American children now are getting 34 doses of 10 different viral and bacterial vaccines before they enter kindergarten.

Common sense tells me that can’t be good getting all those toxins in such an immature immune system.

Funny, I survived on much less... wonder how that happened. According to some, anyone over the age of 40 should be dead because we haven’t been vaccinated against every pathogen that we inevitably come in contact with anyway. And when we are exposed, we ultimately develop a natural immunity against... Strengthen the immune system with nutrition, don’t inject toxins during a very vulnerable developmental period.

We requested at the hospital not to have our preemie baby vaccinated against Hep B...I found out 2 weeks ago that they did it anyway. We both remember the nurse entering that we declined the vaccination. It’s the only one he has had. Now what do we do? I was so mad I cried. He spent two weeks in the ICN just struggling to breathe and eat, his body didn’t need to be fighting to make anti-bodies against a disease he had no chance of catching.

I’d sue their asses off, and I’m not the suing type. That is assault on your child if you requested it not be done.

We agree to disagree then - however - your pharma backed studies, should not legislate what I do for my child.

worth repeating...

And yet every doctor my wife and I are friends with, which is a lot, have had ALL their kids immunized, every single one.

If there was proof of what you are saying then why is it that the doctors, who don’t make diddly squat doing it, all strongly believe in kids getting them? Find me a pediatrician who is glad when a parent comes in and refuses to get any of their children their immunizations, you can’t because their aren’t any.

You can go ahead a believe the Wakefield report, obviously you have made your mind up on it, but can you really tell me that when a doctor takes $675,000 from a law firm that wants to sue the big pharmaceuticals is worth risking your child’s life over? That compared with the thousands upon thousands of doctors and scientists who both argue against it and put their money where their mouth is by immunizing all their kids?

It’s in most of the flu vaccines. AAP recommends 6 month olds get two of these separated by 1m. It’s also pushed very very hard on pregnant women. Even though if you read the package insert the manufacturer itself says ‘not tested or approved in pregnant women’.

The polio virus enters the body through the mouth, usually from hands contaminated with the stool of an infected person, so I imagine, that our modern hygiene, availability of hot water, and soap have just as much to do with the decrease of it.

Then you would imagine wrongly. It was in countries with better hygiene, like the U.S., that experienced much of the incidence of polio.

The original polio vaccine used a killed virus and could not transmit disease. And it was this vaccine that made the old “iron lungs” a thing of the past.

Okay, what is tainted about the evidence that Wakefield lied?

Why destroy Wakefield?
That would be because he committed fraud, in such a way that put many thousands of children at risk. He lied about the results of his study and he lied by hiding the fact that he was being paid to gather evidence for a lawsuit against the vaccine maker.

I have to admit, I got a good laugh out of your linking BIG PHARMA and Marxists. Ultimately, however, it saddens me to read such inanity, since I am sure there are lots of others fooled in the same way. As the parent of a child with mild autism (Asperger's), I have done a lot of research on the topic. That so many people have hung their hopes on one study of 12 children, as opposed to every other scientific study involving many thousands of children, speaks to the pain parents go through in trying to find the answer to the question "why?"

This is another site that lists any vaccines with thimersol in them: www.fda.gov/BiologicsBloodVaccines/.../VaccineSafety/UCM096228
for any that are interested.

Also all should please note difference between ETHYL and METHYEl mercury. Rather like the difference between drinking grain alcohol (ethyl alcohol) and wood alcohol (methyl alcohol).
