WASHINGTON – And let it be said, on this second day following the convening of the 112th Congress, newly sworn members of the House shall stand and read aloud the Constitution of the United States.

.. Republicans in charge of the chamber rattled it off with missionary zeal, .. Democrats pitched in, but with seemingly less ardor.

First time it's been read aloud on the floor since 1789.. wow.

Long Long Overdue. :-}

Those evil evil Founding Fathers. They were up to no good, for sure.

How dare they establish and we maintain such a dastardly and diabolical document(s).

It is best it be read on every street corner throughout all the boroughs of New York and Boston, Los Angeles and San FRancisco,, so everyone hears what it really says.

It might just help explain to some folks why we are here, those who think it is a just an old outdated thing and we now live in an age where we are all enlightened and don't need all the liberties and safeguards in the Constitution anymore.. We're all so much more civilized these day, yaknow. ;-)

Setting a new tone... Let her rip!!

Incoming House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) becomes emotional and cries, wiping tears from both his eyes, as he takes to the podium for the first time after being elected Speaker on the opening day of the 112th United States Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington, January 5, 2011. You know what I'd really like to do with this gavel, Nancy?

Drudge claims a protestor yelled “What about Obama?” when the part about the President’s eligibility was read.

Excellent!

Liberals hate the Constitution because it favors a small, limited, and dispersed federal government. They want centralized large scale government that meets the needs of everybody whether they lift a finger to support themselves or not, that makes everything fair for everybody, that keeps a perfect environment, that educates even the least educable, that taxes the workers and rewards the idle, that cures the ill on your nickle, that does not believe every citizen should pay some tax to validate their investment in America. Stop the liberals, now.

Liberals hate the Constitution and any fixed set of rules

because it precludes their ability to exercise “discretion” (unequal application of law)

from which they derive their power.

I thought it was a great idea in concept. Unfortunately, in practice, it took away what little hope that I had that this new Congress would be somewhat competent.

The “Reading of the Constitution”, and the arguments preceding the reading, Like: Which Constitution would be read, Who would get to read which parts, In what language it would be read, etc. illustrated all too well that we are not going to get out of this downward spiral.

Before the news coverage cut away from it in boredom, it was pretty obvious to me that about one out of five of them is nearly illiterate, and that four out of five of them have no love nor interest in the Constitution, and would have much preferred to be just about anywhere else doing almost anything else. Pelousy quite literally choked on the words of Article 1 Section 1, despite it being innocuous and not limiting her power to rule over us peasants like some of the later stuff.

And the “I yield to the Gentleman(woman)from (State) Mr.(s) (Name) in between every paragraph took away any continuity and educational opportunity that could have been provided by the reading, had it been done by one or two good readers who have some passion for the document.

'Thor and his Mighty Hammer' ?

Newly elected US Speaker of the House John Boehner during the opening session of the 112th Congress in Washington, DC. A day after retaking the House of Representatives, US Republicans moved Thursday to make good on a campaign vow to slash spending with a mostly symbolic vote to cut lawmakers' office budgets. In other news, prior to the Reading of the Constitution, every Democrat Member of Congress received a personally inscribed copy of the Communist Manifesto from their Dear Leader, Barack Hussein Obama.

Boehner needs his tear ducts surgically removed, and weekly shots of testosterone.

Man up!

Reminds me of something our Pastor said in church ... apparently the service used to include reading the 10 Commandments once a month.

And, every year I take refresher courses at work in harassment, labor accounting, etc.

The Constitution should be read every time they take an oath to uphold it. Perhaps before they take the oath, to remind them exactly what they're promising.
