Since it is not very hard for family members to have their mentally ill family members committed, both for their and the public protection shouldn’t the blame go to whomever insisted that the mentally ill could make their own decisions? I wonder if his family got him in to get a psych evaluation or if he refused and they couldn’t force one.

I agree. This should be the topic of conversation. Apparently this kid was kicked out of college and the professor was worried about him bringing a gun to class. Why wasn’t this pursued further?
