Questions about mental illness, access to guns follow Arizona shooting(Washing Post Editorial)

(second paragraph)

Saturday's rampage does illustrate the need for tighter control of semiautomatic weapons and ammunition. The gunman arrived at the supermarket with a Glock semiautomatic equipped with an extended magazine of about 30 bullets and additional ammunition. The long-lapsed federal ban on assault weapons, which prohibited such high-capacity magazines, should be reinstated: There is no justification, outside of law enforcement or military use, for such ammunition. A magazine with a smaller capacity might not have stopped the gunman, but it might have at least reduced the carnage. President Obama once promised to push to reinstate the assault weapons ban but has backed down in the face of political opposition, and it is, sadly, hard to imagine that the shooting will usher in a new era of political openness to even reasonable gun control measures. It is a sad irony that last year Arizona joined Alaska and Vermont in permitting anyone over 21 to carry a concealed weapon without a background check.

Something has to be up. The sociopathic-liar-press is monolithically spouting the same line and blaming the same (innocent) people.

They'll write ANYTHING whatsoever to obscure the abundantly clear truth that the shooter was a pyschotic, anti-American left-wing atheist.

I can honestly say that I've never seen the MSM quite this pathetic and beneath contempt.

It is not going to work this time. Americans are awake and much more educated and aware than in previous times.

The writer can not purchase a Glock 19 in Washington DC, yet Washington DC still has a higher firearms homicide rate than any state in the US — 31.2/100,000.

Yup. The WashCompost raises a fuss about AZ’s allegedly “weak” gun laws but never bothers to point out despite the fact private gun ownership has been banned since 1976 in the nation’s capital, homicides have been breaking records ever since. A disarmed populace is easier to terrorize and kill than one that can protect itself.

But this wouldn’t serve its anti-gun ideology, so its goes unmentioned in its vicious attack on AZ’s affirmation of the fundamental 2nd Amendment right the residents of the nation’s capital still don’t have.

Your link does not go to the excerpted editorial. It does go to an article/analysis that is critical of AZ gun laws but it is not the editorial excerpted on the title link.

Sorry... the mod can correct the link to this:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/01/09/AR2011010904022.html

This should be the one it should point to.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Take away gun rights, only leaves the criminals with guns.

Eighty two year old man in Fla. defends home with gun. Intruder dies shortly after the attack with gun shot to head.
Fla. has right to conceal and carry.
