Kim Jong-eun's Intensifying Purge of N. Korean Military
Lee Myung-sung
2011-01-10
As New Year starts, N. Korean military is in the middle of inexplicable personnel reassignment and purge drive
Our source inside N. Korea reported on Jan. 8 that the number of inmates is suddenly swelling at (Jang-hyun-dong) Military Prison. It is under the control of Defense Ministry and located at Jang-huyn-dong Valley, Kimchaek City, North Hamkyung Province. It is right below Machon-ryong Pass. Lately many of (incoming) inmates are former generals purged by Kim Jong-eun.

The source said that common soldiers and company (mid-level) officers used to make up most of incoming inmates, but in New Year, former generals from Defense Ministry, General Bureau of Military Commissars, and General Staffs, are joining the ranks, along with managers from hard-cash earning enterprises. The charges against them are said to be dubious. According to prison officials, either they are not pleased about Kim Jong-eun's succession or not fully supportive. They are ordered to undergo hard labor and strong reeducation in order to be ideologically recharged.
The source also mentioned that high ranking officers are being inexplicably dismissed and reassigned at the headquarter of light infantry division stationed at Suwon-dong, Kimchaek City, adding that there is atmosphere of abject fear about Kim Jong-eun's purge drive inside N. Korean Military.

Most likely correct.
But you never know how many DPRK generals have had too much of the kool-aid. Seoul is, after all, only 25-30 miles south of the DMZ . . .
I remember noticing that the Central Committee is top heavy with aging generals who go back to the glory days of 1950.
They have not yet updated the KCNA site http://kcna.co.jp/index-e.htm the latest is still Jan 7.
the same for the pictures (Korean) http://kns-photo.com/
and the latest here (Korean) http://kcna.co.jp/today-rodong/rodong.htm is from Dec 27.
Why?
1950s . . . that’s a long time to be imbibing kool-aid

Not from the main KNCA page, but I did find this today (DPRK seems to be upset about some upcoming ROK exercises)-
S. Korea to Stage Field Tactical Military Exercises

This lack of updates from the DPRK mouthpiece, in light of the articles TLR has tracked down does make me wonder if there is a changing of the guard/power struggle taking place.
Part of the reason for "The Winter War" against Finland, nothing better than to have a war to keep potentially plotting generals occupied.
Yes, it seems that there is a disturbance in the chain of command for the propaganda units.
Is this http://www.uriminzokkiri.com/2011/main-gisa.php?Rel_key=24843&keyname=Rel_key&tblname=tblurigisa the first time that an official North Korean site is discussing a hacked page?
Tiger - looks like an english version of the story you posted from Chosun Ilbo today just came out

Lot’s of the same info, but here a quote of some interest -
“A former senior North Korean official who defected to the South said, “Kim Jong-il may be trying to hand over power to his son quickly, but nothing is going on as intended.”
Most disturbing news out of the DPRK in a while...
That could be very bad.
By the way, another development about the poem which started it all. After it was posted, NK security agents were dispatched to NK's cyber agitation unit in Shenyang, China, and they are investigating people working there. The unit is responsible for running the said NK site.
I agree completely! Lil’ Kim is in for a rude awakening.
thanks
I especially like this excerpt: **Kim Jong Eun, according to propaganda described in a recent Chinese magazine article, learned to drive at age 3. By 8, he could safely maneuver dirt roads at 75 mph. As a teenager, he mastered four foreign languages. He is now learning three more.**
Reminds me of home, and waxing all nostalgic...I just remembered that we did the same thing here, we took a community organizer who has never worn a uniform and made him Commander-in-Chief; a guy who has never led anything more than an ACORN demonstration and made him the leader of this country.
