Blaming the Right for the Giffords Attack Is Pure McCarthyism

January 10, 2011 01:40 PM George Will

It would be merciful if, when tragedies such as Tucson's occur, there were a moratorium on sociology. But respites from half-baked explanations, often serving political opportunism, are impossible because of a timeless human craving and a characteristic of many modern minds.

The craving is for banishing randomness and the inexplicable from human experience. Time was, the gods were useful. What is thunder? The gods are angry. Polytheism was explanatory. People postulated causations.

And still do. Hence: The Tucson shooter was (pick your verb) provoked, triggered, unhinged by today's (pick your noun) rhetoric, vitriol, extremism, "climate of hate."

Demystification of the world opened the way for real science, including the social sciences. And for a modern characteristic. And for charlatans.

A characteristic of many contemporary minds is susceptibility to the superstition that all behavior can be traced to some diagnosable frame of mind that is a product of promptings from the social environment. From which flows a political doctrine: Given clever social engineering, society, and people, can be perfected. This supposedly is the path to progress. It actually is the crux of progressivism. And it is why there is a reflex to blame conservatives first.

Instead, imagine a continuum from the rampages at Columbine and Virginia Tech — the results of individuals' insanities — to the assassinations of Lincoln and the Kennedy brothers, which were clearly connected to the politics of John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, and Sirhan Sirhan, respectively. The two other presidential assassinations also had political colorations.

No, it’s not. McCarthy was right.

I expect the left to be ignorant of history, but Will should know better.

Wrong.

McCarthy had a point: There were lots of Communists in the Government.

The “Sarah Palin Caused Tucson” Leftists don’t have a point. Conservatism is in no way involved with deranged mass murder.

You are of course 100% correct. Tailgunner Joe had it right about commies even if he was not the greatest guy in the world. To bad he was so vilified.

More akin to nazism.

A few weeks back the history channel ran a great show about the 3rd reich from a german perspective. Especially interesting was the Reichstag fire and the fact that a great many people didn’t believe the communists started the fire. Unfortunately germans were fat and happy so it wasn’t their problem. Those that did speak out found that it attracted unwanted gestapo attention.

I wonder what it would be like if America had a truly objective media.

Mass murderers would certainly NOT enjoy the status they seem to (maybe they would even be deterred) if the MSM didn't wallpaper over such crimes with howling lies or politicize these actions out of all proportion to their meanness and brutality.

He was hated by republicans because he didn’t fit their mold—he was coarse, not Ivy League—you know the type.

Funny, he was loved by RFK, tho.

McCarthy was indeed right, however, I can see Goerge Will using the figure of speech, wrong as it is when compared to fact.
The knee jerk reaction by the Hard Left is more in line with the propaganda organs of past totalitarian regimes, both Hitler and Stalin (and I see not much difference between the two).

No, George, it's a different 'Joe' that the Left imitates.

Stalin.

No George, it's not McCarthyism.

You see, McCarthy was right...we were riddled (and still are) with communist and marxist sympathizers. Heck, our current President is an abject marxist ideolog.

So, blaming the Right for this shooting is simply a lie and distraction and an effort from those very same enemies McCarthy tried so hard to point out, to continue on their path to destroying America.

There is absolutely no connection between Sarah Palin and this deranged shooter. None. But this is a direct connection between the shooter and Obama, Bill Ayers and Mike Kolinsky - Ayers co-founder of the weather underground.

As reporter Aaron Klein correctly points out, the Shooter Loughner attended a high school that is part of a network in which teachers are trained and provided resources by a liberal group founded by Weatherman terrorist Bill Ayers and funded by President Obama.

The group, Small Schools Workshop, has been led by a former top communist activist who is an associate of Ayers. Obama provided the group with funds in the 1990s when he worked at an education reform group alongside Ayers. Ayers himself is considered one of the fathers of the Smaller Learning Communities. Ayers recruited a radical activist, Mike Klonsky, to head the Workshop. Klonsky still serves as director.

In 1995, with Obama as its chairman, the newly formed Chicago Annenberg Challenge, or CAC, a school reform organization, gave the Workshop a grant of $175,000. The CAC provided another $482,662 to the Workshop over the next few years. Loughner (the shooter) attended Mountain View High School whom is a direct recipient of these radicals ideology in which the assassin shooter Loughner was a participant in the program.

Ayers was on a working group of five that originally founded the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Correspondence shows Ayers was instrumental in recruiting Obama to serve as the CAC’s first chairman. Klonsky served with Ayers and Ayers’ wife, former Weatherman terrorist Bernardine Dohrn, In the 1970s, Klonsky became a top communist activist and leader of the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party.

.Klonsky promotes the philosophy that young workers possessed the potential to be a revolutionary force to overthrow capitalism.

Thanks Obama / Ayers / Kolinsky / Weather Underground / Annenberg. Job well done indoctrinating this young shooter, your educational program is right on. You will ask for more funds now and the democrats and Obama will once again grant it to you.

What Will is saying is true, of course, but it’s ironic that by using “McCarthyism,” he is buying into a previous leftist propaganda campaign no less dishonest than this one.

The correct term is Reichstag Fire. There actually were communists in the government and other key spots who actually were in touch with the Soviets and were trying to destroy us.

By contrast, the Reichstag fire was a non-political incident that was used by the Nazis as a pretext for creating hysteria against a group they wanted to suppress anyway. That’s what this is all about but I don’t think the dems will get away with it.
