Several leading House Democrats blamed the inflammatory rhetoric for contributing to the Tucson massacre, while Republicans denounced criticism of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) following the tragedy.

One lawmaker, Rep. Robert Brady (D-Pa.), has said he would introduce a bill to make it a crime to threaten or incite violence against a federal official.

Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) suggested the Federal Communications Commission was “not working anymore,” adding she would look at ways to better police language on the airwaves. A brick was thrown through a window of Slaughter’s district office last year.

Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) urged Republicans to change the name of the repeal bill, which is titled the “Repeal the Job-Killing Healthcare Law Act.” “I’m not suggesting that the name of that one piece of legislation somehow led to the horror of this weekend — but is it really necessary to put the word ‘killing’ in the title of a major piece of legislation?” Pingree wrote on The Huffington Post website.

They seem to have forgotten that they are no longer the majority.

Is this "incendiary speech" going to include lyrics in music?

Black Rappers Call on Blacks to Murder and rape Whites

Guns Don't Kill People, Rappers Do

Don't you know the difference? Free expression in art is protected by our constitution.

I suggest a bill that prohibits any legislative body from passing any law for 90 after such an event. Tincture of time is what's called for at this point, not a bunch of new laws passed by ‘do-something’ lawmakers.

Robert Brady
(Dummy, PA)

(pssst, hey Bob) Have you ever heard or read this:
Amendment 1: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

And genius, whose to determine what 'incite violence' means / constitutes?

Or is it something as simple as my Tagline?
'Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.'
That happens to be a quote from Mark Twain. Soooooo BOB, should we burn all his 'violence inciting' books? I sure hope not as that quote seems to fit YOU to a tee!

And here's a free clue Bob --- Almost ANYTHING spoken or written can 'incite violence' by a CRAZY PERSON. Even saying 'Hello', or 'Good Morning'.

#@$% *&@* $%#@ idiot!

Malignant political correctness, and the usual Democrat lowest common denominator response, i.e.:

If someone somewhere eats too much salt, ban all salt.

If someone somewhere misuses a firearm, ban all firearms.

If someone somewhere has a fat child eating a Happy Meal, ban all Happy Meals.

If someone somewhere says something “incendiary” (as defined by effete, metrosexual Democrats), ban all “incendiary” speech.

Nothing screams TOTALITARIAN DICTATORSHIP better than Democrat responses to any perceived “crisis” ...

Isn't it already a crime to communicate a threat against someone . . .anyone . . .like one of us regular folks? I thought so. No need for a special bill - it is already illegal.

Slaughter has violent connotations.

Perhaps she should changed her name to
Louise Butterflies-Fly-Out-My-Butt-on-a-Warm-Spring-Day.

Exactly what is needed, more political correctness. If we try hard enough we can sanitize our society into perfection but there will be a serious question. Whose idea of perfection will be adopted? I don’t believe people like this “lawmaker”
are the models I wish to choose. It is painfully obvious this man has not thought, in any serious way, about what he is suggesting. He comes from the (wouldn’t it be nice if everyone thought the way I do) school of thought or should I say school of non thought. How can you be a proponent of a free society and free speech and make such claims. Obviously you cannot.

The Supreme Court is going to be a very busy place for a few years.

Notice to the elitist politicians: THE BILL OF RIGHTS...THE FIRST AMENDMENT...THE CONSTITUTION

“...or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press,...”
