Malkin: The Worst Sheriff in America
GOP USA ^ | 1/12/2011 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 01/12/2011 7:47:04 AM PST by Bigun

If the White House has any sense, President Obama will stay far away from the demagogic Dupnik and his media entourage when he visits Arizona on Wednesday to memorialize the victims. Indeed, if the White House is truly committed to unifying the country, it will explicitly disavow Dupnik’s vulture-like exploitation of the shooting rampage.

Why do we continue to put up with idiots like this?

Since when does a County Sheriff get to arbitrarily choose which laws he will or will not enforce?

Dipstik is covering his *** with all of his heated rhetoric and vitriol. I’ve got a feeling that the FBI is going to want to talk to the boy before all of this is over. I hope the boy has his AARP dues caught up.

Seems to me that the sheriff may have had good reason to point fingers, because he may have known early on that his office was culpable and that he needed to deflect attention from himself.

Please notice that the Tucson police department have apparently not been involved in the investigation. I’m told that is because Lochner’s home, the crime scene, and Pima County Community College all lie outside the city limits, in the sheriff’s jurisdiction.

In other words, Lochner was likely well-known as a local “crazy” to law enforcement, but rather than documenting his behavior and forcing a mental evaluation, the sheriff’s office looked the other way.

It is very, very hard for families alone to get a mentally ill relative into psychiatric care if the patient is unwilling. But law enforcement can arrest a person and take him before the court for involuntary commitment.

I don’t know what the laws are in Arizona, but the families of the victims may have a good case against the sheriff.

Has anyone considered that Loughner looks like Krugman, but without the hair and beard. Both of them have that spaced-out look in their eyes.

And every time I hear his name, I go off into a fantasy where I am watching a 1950’s movie parody, “I Was a Sheriff for the KGB”, with a voice over like:”And so, Sheriff Dupenik was sent forth to enforce imaginary thought crime, while ignoring real criminal activity”...

Wonder if the fact that his parents work for the county had anything to do with Lochner not being held accountable for his previous actions?

Probably not, and no reason to think so without evidence.

His mom worked for the parks department, a separate and unrelated entity. Dad was apparently unemployed.

We’ll see.

I doubt it. His mom worked for the recreation dept. That hardly carries any weight. It is probably just the police being lazy. Plus, until a crime is actually done, most police will do nothing.

His jurisdiction is the entire county.

Since always. We used to have some in North Carolina who ran real fiefdoms.

Well I HOPE they have since stopped allowing that sort of thing in North Carolina and they sure as hell need to do so in Pima County Arizona!

“... he may have known early on that his office was culpable...”

He definitely seemed to be scolding everyone else but himself. IMHO, he was the one who really started the whole “political” motive. He should realize that law enforcement is suppose to deal with FACTS not SPECULATION. He has failed on this one, big time.

Do not know if this is true. I heard one reporter say that Lochner’s mother worked for or have in the past for the Worst Sheriff,
Maybe thsi is the connection for the words he raves about the Sarah & others.I have heard nothing else about this from the libs.

That’s true, of course.

But the sheriff’s department generally takes a back seat to local police inside a municipality, serving as backup. In an unincorporated area, the sheriff has sole jurisdiction.

Apparently they believe in him. I hear Tuscon is one of the more sloppy liberal venues in the country.
