This was a tragic event, there is no two ways about it, but it was 6 people who died and 13 who will live (Thank God). More people are killed on the streets in Chicago any night of the week. Why are they making this a national event in which the nation must mourn?

Yes it was shocking, yes it was disgraceful, yes we mourn the loss of the 6 people but this overkill is probably the most shocking thing of all.

This is NOT the Oklahoma City bombing. This is NOT the 3,000 people massacred at WTC. This was a single nut case who went on a shooting spree.

Mu wife and I were absolutely shocked at the tone of this thing last night. Applause lines at a memorial for dead people? WTF were they thinking?

Free T-shirts?

Mrs. L asked me if Obama was going to autograph a few on his way out.

Sure we have a spree killer a week in this country, but most of those don't have the potential political exploitablility that this guy brought to the table.

Well actually, he really didn't bring any politics to the table, but they had a pretty Democratic congresswoman with a serious head wound, so they whipped up all the side dishes on their own.

I agree. Most Americans couldn’t find Tuscon on a map. While a shocking story it’s still a story about a mad man. The only ‘interesting’ angle to it was the fact that it completely burst the balloon of the new Republican congress. So rather than having a week of media dissecting every tear of Boehner and ever flutter of Pelosi’s eyelashes we’re wringing our hands over whether or not free people should be allowed to express themselves freely and whether or not our congressional reps should have public events. The whole thing is a circus and has served the democrats well. I hope and pray that the congress gets back to the people’s business next week and doesn’t change the agenda.

What a difference a day makes. One day we are making forward progress in restoring our liberties and the next we are back to squelching constitutional freedoms while slamming talk radio & Sarah Palin. The more things change the more they stay the same.

You’re right. It is much more similar to the Fort Hood shootings. The contrast in the way the two tragedies were handled is breathtaking. In one a muslim terrorist shot our soldiers and the government told us not to jump to conclusions about his connection to Jihad....in spite of his allah akbar prelude. They told us it may be a lone nut.
In Arizona we have a lone nut and the secretary of state tells on overseas audience that we have “extremists” too and squarely points the finger everywhere but at the nut responsible. The most astonishing thing is that anybody believes anything they say.
Prayer is the only thing that will get us out of this mess. I really believe we are up against the forces of darkness and without the Lord we are toast.
