Loughner's family gets Arizona support

Besides the families of victims from Saturday's mass shooting in Tucson, the parents of suspect Jared Loughner are also getting support — even from strangers.

People have been dropping off cards and flowers at the home of Randy and Amy Loughner Wednesday.

One of them was nurse Lisa Campbell, who lives about three miles away and doesn't know the couple.

She brought by a card and flowers. Campbell said in the card were her name and phone number — in case they wanted someone to talk to.

It’s sad. I have a sister with schizophrenia, onset in her teens. The writings I read from this kid reminded me very much of my sisters writings back then. So very sad.

The parents need human charity, too. This is showing the love of the divine to others.

I am warmed by the people of tucson. No matter what, the parents had nothing to do with it. This must be so horrific for them.

My oldest son 32 years old is also Schizophrinic. Onset early 20’s. I wish people would understand the helplessness of family members.

I told my sister the other night that I live in fear everyday that my son may become a victim or hurt somebody. This tragedy underscores that fear.

thank God he is in the system and would not be permitted to purchase a weapon.

No doubt these parents missed and ignored a lot of signs, but they have to be crushed. I would much rather be a victim than to have to live through what they're experiencing.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

My sister could not purchase a gun either, should she want to. She's 55 now and the right combination of meds were finally found.

My heart goes out to his family...first to see their son being taken away mentally and then for him to commit such a tradegy.

Said it before and I stand by it. They share responsibility and should be in jail!

Do you remember the outreach that the Amish community made to the family of the gunman? That was amazing. The forgiveness and compassion they displayed to his family was humbling.

Unfortunately my son refuses to take medication and he lives on the streets of Eureka California. He also has hep C and Merca(I know the spelling is wrong) We have tried so many times over the years to get him off the streets to no avail. He is also a Heroin addict as well.

He’s looking more and more like another Charles Whitman, though Whitman did try to get help for himself and it doesn’t appear that Loughner ever did.

I agree with you. No reason to sugar coat this, they are part of the blame.

I heard a report this AM that the father had tried to chase the punk down on foot because of the black bag he saw his son holding. How horrible to realize that you almost averted the tragedy but just couldn’t run fast enough.

And enough of this carp about schizophrenia and all that shyt. He alone is responsible for his acts. No way he should be set up for a mental health defense. He should be tried as a mass murderer and executed.

Uh, before people show too much sympathy to the family, let’s remember that his mother Amy worked for the city of Tucson, and was referenced by Sheriff Dupnick when telling a target of one of his death threats “his Mom works for the city, so you can be sure it is being taken care of”. Did Loughner get special treatment because of this? Can they really claim to know nothing with that death shrine in their own backyard and his extensive record of arrests and complaints? Until those questions are answered, I think this sympathy is misplaced.

Truth be told, the vast majority of street people are mentally ill, alcoholic, or drug addicted, or a combination thereof, and resist any attempt to help them change. In other words, the are not victims of capitalism.

I totally agree with you and was glad to see your post.

My 5 year old nephew is displaying violent signs and has his first appointment with a therapist tomorrow. I believe it is his parents responsibility first and the rest of us second, to make sure he gets the treatment he needs and does not become a danger to himself or others. As soon as I heard that Arizona is one of 44 states where you can have someone committed against their will to protect him and others, I couldn’t understand why the parents didn’t care enough to do that.

I don’t feel any sympathy for these people. If that had been my nephew (or my own son for that matter) that had been the gunman, I would have been too embarrassed and disgusted with myself to accept help from anyone.

I’m sorry. But I believe this a-hole lived with his parents and had a cultish alter with a skull in the back yard. If the parents had a clue about even this one thing, not to mention the fact that the kids was 100% whacked out, it’s their fault, too.

Any one red flag should’ve started the wheels in motion.

Wonder if Obama sent Jared Loughner a thank you card telling him thanks pal you took the heat of me and gave me a chance to pimp my run for another term?.
PS T-shirt is in the mail
