Occasionally, political pundits get so wrapped up in their analysis that they don’t think through all of the implications of their commentary. That happened to Mark Penn, longtime Democratic pollster, in his appearance on Hardball last night, in the most charitable explanation possible. Eyeblast’s Joe Schoffstall clips this magic moment from the discussion with Chris Matthews on how disconnected Barack Obama has become from the American electorate, and what it will take for him to reconnect, using Bill Clinton as an example:(video of Chris Matthews show)
President Clinton reconnected with Oklahoma. And the President right now he seems removed. And it wasn’t until that speech that he really clicked with the American people. Obama needs a similar kind of, yeah. So it will take a terrorist attack for people to like Obama, or perhaps a natural disaster? That’s what Penn says here, and it’s worth noting that Matthews doesn’t bat an eyelash at the suggestion. Had a Republican pollster suggested in 2004 or 2006 that George Bush could really use an “Oklahoma” to reconnect to the American people, the media would have run endless stories about “wag the dog” notions.

Obama’s really gotten shortchanged here. First he gets a jihadi (can’t make anything of that) and now a politically ambiguous paranoid schizophrenic where, try as the left might, they really can’t pin the blame on Tea Partiers or the right in general. Seems like his minions need to mount a serious effort to create something here. Of course, they wouldn’t be so brazen. /s

Apparently Zero’s speech last night has given them renewed energies in their attacks. frankly, I am sencerely concerned for the lives of Palin etc. I would not be surprised to see attacks on Tea Party Members.
I think the original Blowback set them back on their heels.
But today has shown they are coming back for more.
when Congress comes back and takes on HC Repeal, I hope that Repubs notify the LEOs of EVERY threat they will get.
You may be on to something there. The Dums are complaining loudly that Congress should stop all work because of the tagedy.

Most Americans won’t “go there” , the American people are not ready to accept that the possibility of some sort of monsterous event would be used to promote a political career. Ofcourse the Left constantly WARNED Bush not to do such a thing. For me I think the Dummies had the template for a tragedy (odds were in their favor), just waiting for the right tragedy to implement. Plug in the villians, plug in the grand speech (missed on that one), and hope for a spike in the pool numbers. Rabid lefties are in fact very predictable.
The problem is reading their Bulls**t manifesto’s.
Once you clear out all that you get down to it. Get people poor and angry and they will riot for you.
There’s been a lot of talk by newcasters and others about how they get “tingles” and “chills when they hear Obama speak. When I heard the Congressman make this comment, I got an absolute chill of horror! How much more blatant information could be expressed about the agenda they intend to follow? I first felt horror and then pure disgust! They’re a bunch of vultures sitting in their trees waiting for the next horrible event!
I wonder what the next “Celebrate Catastrophe” will look like and what the slogan on the T-Shirt will be.
Were there free T-shirts at the Wellston Memorial or is that a practice to which they have recently devolved?
