McCarthy bill caps ammunition magazines at 10 bullets
The Hill ^ | January 13, 2011 | MIke Lillis

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) will introduce legislation next week capping ammunition magazines at 10 bullets, she announced Thursday.

[Snip]

Since the tragedy, however, Republican leaders have aligned themselves squarely against gun reforms proposed even by members of their own party.

The 1994 assault-weapons ban included the same 10-bullet cap, but that law expired in 2004.

Like the assault-weapons ban, McCarthy's bill will ban high-capacity magazines manufactured after the law is enacted — meaning it doesn't prohibit possession of those made beforehand.

McCarthy, whose husband was killed during a commuter train shooting in 1993

Just wondering - has there ever been a story that included McCarthy and did not reference the loss of her husband in a shooting?

I’m betting that only since the Clinton Assault weapons ban or whatever it was expired.

When I bought my SA XD-40 it came with 10 rd. mags which SA promptly replaced with the proper 12 rd. units.

A gun is a gun, deadly to innocents in the wrong hands. Let’s keep the Glocks out of the hands of known nutballs and leave people like me alone so we can try to protect ourselves and the innocents.

I’ve carried for over 30 years and have never presented, though I considered it a couple of times. Honest gunowners are not a threat, except to the baddies. At the point that ever happens I will be amazed if I have to use all the ammo I have. God willing, I’ll have the presence of mind to limit my output to the scumbags and have true aim.

But, you never know how an encounter like that will go. I don’t spray lead, I TARGET and squeeze, at least at the local range.

Her deceased husband probably turns in his grave each time she speaks.
On that fateful day aboard the LIRR train...the only thing that could have saved them from Colin Ferguson was presence of another gun.

Oh yeah, that woman might still have her husband if he had been well trained and packing. Guess hi-cap mags is all she hears when the subject of firearms comes up.

Woman, if your man had been able to protect himself he might still be around, even against attackers armed with a lot of ammo. Since stoopid gun laws kept him from being armed one can only assume he was in a wrong place with no protection. Or maybe he was a p*ssy and would have failed to be able to prevent that tragedy, who knows.

I don’t watch a lot of movies, but I’ve heard of one called Spinal Tap, a satire on rock stars. Although the volume knob on guitar amplifiers only went up to a 10 setting, in the movie they had one that went to 11 (thus replies 4 and 6).

Here is the video, at about 1:20 it talks about “11” and the best part of it is at the end.

If you got 2 minutes watch the whole thing, it is funny.

You are absolutely correct. With an SMLE Enfield you can work a bolt action so fast that you’d think it’s a semi-auto.

Ban ALL bullets. Why stop at just ten? Where’s the logic? This is really stupid!

But, you never know how an encounter like that will go. I don’t spray lead, I TARGET and squeeze, at least at the local range.

Unless you are on a 270 range, your local shooting line is anti-training for defense pistol. No crim is going to just let you stand there, adopt a stance, carefully raise from a table a loaded weapon, wait for you to size up the target, aim and squeeze off a round at a known and standardized distance in ideal light. Unless all you care about is targets, the standard bench shooting does nothing but reinforce every bad habit one can make in defense shooting.

Now if the rangemaster would let you, draw from covered small-of-back holster, shoot while on the run to a low obstacle, using your weak hand to shoot at an unknown distance and a partially visible and moving target while people are running around you screaming - all in bad light, then you would get an idea of how that sort of encounter might go. Extra credit if people are shooting at you and you're in great pain.

IDPA or IPSC if you can't go to Thunder Ranch.

This is a stupid idea. However, if it passes, which I doubt, but just for sake of argument here, it should apply to ALL. That means that the police, secret service, armed forces and so on will also be restricted to the use of 10 round magazines as well. If they enact laws for peons like you and me then the law has to apply equally to those in power as well.

Let’s do what’s right...don’t hold back! I think we should limit magazines to 1/2 bullet.

The last time mag capacity was capped at 10 rounds, we saw a shift away from 9mm to .45, on the basis that if you only had 10 rounds, they might as well be big ones.

Also, it takes under a second to swap out an empty mag for a full one, with practice.

Democrats, leftists, socialists etc. should not be be allowed to own any firearms, kitchen utensils with a sharp edge, or wine bottle/box opening devices.

NY wines are the principle cause of dementia. According to recent statistics provided by DHS.

Next time you see this old bag, she will have a death grip on the wheel of a Crown Vic at 40mph in the right lane of I75 in Tampa.....

Does she even have a suspicion what building she is sitting in right now?
