I also heard Linda Lopez say to a Fox reporter on Saturday that the shooter was an “Afghan war vet” and that Ms. Giffords’ father told the police his daughter’s enemies were “the entire Tea Party”. The latter comment by the father was perhaps understandable under the circumstances, but Lopez’s voice was dripping with contempt about the supposed vet. A family member of mine who is active duty military heard it and almost became physically sick at the thought. I have no idea who told Lopez that - Sheriff Dupnik, perhaps - or on what basis they did so.
That Lopez interview just had me shaking my head in disgust!! And I never heard any retractions later. She DID completely sound patronizing.
And I forgot about the father's comment --- it was hit after hit toward us (those of us who had spent over a year protesting her policies, peacefully, never one incident of anything!!). He was only echoing his daughter's incessant drum-beating about how we are "the mob" with "swastikas." And she probably told her parents worse stuff privately over the last few years. I remember them coming to various events and sitting in the front.
