RI Gov. Chafee: Stop paying for vitriolic commentary
The Providence Journal ^ | January 13, 2011 | Felice Freyer

Posted on 01/14/2011 7:02:10 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

When talk radio hosts use harshly divisive language, "The advertisers should shut them down," Governor Lincoln Chafee said this morning.

Chafee said the solution to the vitriolic rhetoric -- which some have linked to the shooting of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords over the weekend -- is for people to stop paying for it, including not buying books from people who use such language.

Chafee made his comments in response to reporters' questions after a meeting on health care. He noted that he had been a target of violence-tinged criticism himself. In 2006, conservative commentator Ann Coulter wrote a column, "They shot the wrong Lincoln," and calling then-Senator Chafee a "half-wit."

Chafee made national news earlier this week when he announced that he would not go on talk radio and would ban state employees from doing so.

The ban came because talk radio is essentially "ratings-driven, for-profit programming" that was not appropriate use of state employees' time, Chafee said....

......and calling then-Senator Chafee a "half-wit."

half-wit (h f w t , häf -). n. Slang. A foolish or stupid person. half -wit ted adj. half -wit ted·ly adv. half -wit ted·ness

Maybe Gov. Chafee would prefer that she describe him as Gore once did his political enemies, as possessing "an extra chromosome,"

“The ban came because talk radio is essentially “ratings-driven, for-profit programming””

Virtually ALL radio is ratings-driven and for-profit! What a...half-wit!

What’s his definition of vitriolic? One persons vitriol could be lying bag of hysterical slime, and another could be truth and facts.

He really must have done a slow burn when this hit the Internet:

[snip]

“...After Chafee’s family money got him into Andover and Brown, he made his living shoeing horses for seven years. In fact, I’ve often wondered if an errant kick to the head by one of his charges would account for Chafee’s rudimentary cognitive abilities.

That remains Chafee’s only professional accomplishment — unless you include the “fun zone” for kids on his official Senate Web site. Perhaps we could install a “play zone” like they have at McDonald’s in the Senate well to keep Chafee occupied while the real senators go about their business.

When the farrier business proved too taxing for Chafee’s intellect, he went into the family business — politics. His father died in office, and Lincoln was appointed by the governor to serve out the remainder of Pop’s term in the U.S. Senate. (I know Rhode Island is small, but couldn’t they find someone who reads books right side up to fill the seat?) In terms of qualifications for the job, Chafee makes Michael Brown look like Donald Rumsfeld.

Chafee is everything the Democrats like to claim Republicans are, which we are not and they are: silver-spoon morons who get ahead on the basis of family connections (for example, Ned the Red Lamont in Connecticut)....”

[snip]

Each day the polls show Americans do not believe the lies being spread by the DEMS/MEDIA....and that seems to be angering the DEMS/MEDIA more.

calling then-Senator Chafee a "half-wit."

Ann gives Chafee 50% too much credit.

I plead guilty. I am vitriolic... and Chaffee’s stupid ban is unconstitutional. He can’t censor viewpoints he doesn’t like.

Let’s hear it for liberal civility!

Chaffe needs to put on his man panties and face the fact that he’s a public figure who says a lot of half witted crap. Its no surprise he takes some heat for it.

Newspapers and television are more vitriolic and are also profit-driven (though not doing so well at it, the last I saw). Why not just cut out ALL media?

Or is this really just about silencing the voices you don't like? (And no, there's no need to actually answer that, we all know what the answer would be.)

OK, advertisers, let’s start by pulling your ads from MSNBC and Ed schultz, Chris Matthews, Rachel Madcow and Keith Olbermann. More hatred and personal attacks come from those four than any dozen conservative talkshow or Fox commentators.

Anyone that disagrees with liberals is vitrolic?

Glenn Beck is doing an excellent job of exposing the plans and schemes of the various leftists of this country and they're trying to destroy him.

We must defend him at every opportunity even if you don't agree with him 100%.

We cannot let these scum-bags take away our free speech and the right to fight them.

People have already been taking his advice.
Look at the dismal epic fail of Air America and how many lib talking heads books have been on best seller lists for any length of time.

We the folks reject constant never ending hate, Gov. Chafee, always have.

While we’re taking away freedom of speech, shall we also take away right to life? Let’s make Jodie Foster illegal. That way no other wack-jobs will try to assassinate a president for her.

You forget NPR. Which is what liberal half-wits wish all radio could be.

That’s why they are becoming so shrill. It’s worked for them before. The shriller(is that a word?)and more hysterical they become the more American’s would turn to them. Then came the internet, talk radio, and foxnews. I also think the constant droning on and on, racist this and racist that, by the dems has become a big yawn to a lot of people. A kind of, here they go again.

I think our winning the ideological argument is really driving liberals crazy. And it's a collective insanity, as we can now see so clearly how interdependent and tribal they are.

Our dissent is "vitriol" to them because they see their power crumbling to the ground.

We're winning because we now have real-world proof that their ideas are bankrupt, since the One took liberalism off bumper stickers and put it into practice.
