Reason TV gives a report on the problems plaguing California’s Central Valley, once a breadbasket to the world, and now a government-created basket case of dust, unemployment, poverty, and now starvation. The short documentary focuses on two federal policies that heavily impact the farming region, the first water policy and environmentalism, and the second immigration:
The crisis in the Central Valley comes directly from the application of the Endangered Species Act to the Delta smelt, one of a number of bait fish species indigenous to the area. The order by a federal judge relying on that law cut off irrigation to a massive area of arable land and created a vast wasteland out of a farming bonanza, all to protect one species of inedible fish. Congress needs to curtail the ESA and get the water turned back on in the valley.

Well, if the Feds don’t make a desert out of the Central Valley then the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California will. They just completed a deal in Yolo County to move another 80,000 acre feet of water south every year and they’re after an estimated 1.5m acre feet by buying up farms and exporting the water rights. In addition, they’re trying to end the seniority water rights of cities along the Sacramento River and its tributaries so even more water can be sent to Southern California.
The fish is a tool through which the politicians drive the present landowners off of their land and then reward their supporters. The endangered species act is one tool by which property is transferred to political supporters.
Families, communities, businesses - an entire way of life - destroyed over some st00pit f*****g FISH that's not even "endangered."
If this world was just, the scumbags responsible for this tragedy would be tried and hung for crimes against humanity.
I watched the clip and they are saying we need to find a way to legalize the illegals. :(

I notice that HE doesn’t live anywhere near this location....
Isn’t California on the ocean? Is the ocean full of water? Do we have the technology to turn sea water into fresh water? Doesn’t nuclear power offer the unlimited energy to turn sea water into fresh water? Am I missing something?
The Central Valley is irrigated desert.
