A failure to lead: NYPD reluctant in seeking ban sales of gun magazines to civilians
NY Post ^ | January 13, 2011

The NYPD's reluctance to take the lead in seeking to ban sales of high- capacity gun magazines to civilians is a disappointment.

As is Mayor Bloomberg's ambivalence to the notion.

As we noted yesterday, the 30-round magazine that Jared Lee Loughner employed to create so much carnage last Saturday has no civilian utility.

And Glock simply shouldn't be selling them. Period.

Thus it makes perfect sense for the NYPD and other urban police departments to simply stop buying Glock sidearms until the company pulls them off the market.

Regarding Obama, guns, and all standard-capacity magazines:

He’s coming to take them away, Ha-ha!
He’s coming to take them away!

THAT is what Obama meant by the wildly-cheered code words in his Tucson speech: “We should be willing to challenge old assumptions in order to lessen the prospects of violence in the future.” aka Gun BANS!

Every American SHOULD have high capcity mags to protect their homes for when the lights go out and the cops are busy looting Walmart.

Gads, the quality of early posts on the new threads today is simply on a hyperbolic trajectory upward. I'm not even going to try to keep up. I'll just pour another brandy and giggle like a noob.

Kudos.

Does this fsckwit know many many more people make mags than guns? For all I know, Glock doesn’t even make hicap mags and the one the idiot used in Tucson is already an aftermarket unit. Then these idiots would be blackmailing Glock over something they’re not even doing. Typical liberals.

Thus it makes perfect sense for the NYPD and other urban police departments to simply stop buying Glock sidearms until the company pulls them off the market.

In other words, it doesn't matter if Glock makes the best firearms, the most cost-effective firearms, or both. The A-hole who wrote this piece for the New York Post wants the City of New York to stop buying them -- for the sole purpose of making a political statement that might make no sense from a financial standpoint and/or a police safety standpoint.

Check the Glock website. They offer 33 round mags for 9MM.

As we noted yesterday

"We"??? Who's "we", and what is their expertise to pass judgment on the utility of 30 round capacity magazines?

I think that it should be the other way around! If a city or state has draconian gun control laws, the manufacturers should refuse to sell to them, disarming the law enforcement agencies.

I really applaud Ronnie Barret and his decision to no longer sell or service weapons to any law enforcement agency in CA due to their banning of .50 cal weapons.

Gun and ammunition manufacturers and suppliers of parts and accessories should cutoff all sales and product support for any municipality that tries to restrict citizen’s RKBA.

As far as NYC is concerned: 1) no new sales, 2) no magazines (factory or aftermarket), 3) no spare parts, 4) no training for NYPD armorers, 5) no further ammunition sales by ANY supplier.

Let NYC figure out what to do when the ammo dries up, their sidearms break, and they have to start cannibalizing what’s left to service the working cop’s sidearms.
