Kennedy and co. also pulled real dirty tricks against Humphrey in the primaries by spreading anti Catholic literature and then blaming Humphrey’s campaign. This way they picked up a sympathy vote. Pretty low.
Yes. It’s ironic that so many Catholics voted for Kennedy, because he would be the first Catholic President, a groundbreaking precedent after many years of anti-Catholic discrimination.
And then Kennedy turned around in office and never did a thing that could have been said to have been motivated by his Catholic upbringing or by orthodox Catholic values.
