Man Shot in Rampage is Arrested at a Taping (Eric Fuller "Involuntarily Committed")

TUCSON — A victim of the shooting spree here that severely injured Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was taken into custody on Saturday after the police and witnesses said the man spoke threateningly at a televised forum intended to help this stricken city heal.

Eric Fuller, 63, a military veteran who was passionate about liberal causes and who had supported Ms. Giffords, was “involuntarily committed for mental health evaluation,” according to Jason Ogan, a spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff’s office.

Mr. Fuller, who was shot in the left knee and the back on Jan. 8, was among several victims, medical personnel and others who attended a special forum televised by ABC and hosted by Christiane Amanpour.

State Representative Terri Proud, a Republican, was sitting two rows behind Mr. Fuller. The topic of gun control had come up in the forum, she said, and a comment was made by one of the speakers about a bill that was introduced recently in Arizona that would allow staff members on college campuses with concealed weapons permits to carry guns.

Ms. Proud said she spoke up to clarify the exact language of the bill. At that point, Trent Humphries, the founder of the Tucson Tea Party, who was sitting one row behind her, rose to speak and suggested that discussion about gun legislation be postponed until after the funerals. He started to explain that he, too, had been affected by the tragedy through a neighbor who was a victim.

That was, according to Ms. Proud, when Mr. Fuller blurted out to Mr. Humphries: “You’re dead.”

I’m curious how the NY Times reporters could file this story. How do you type on a computer keyboard with clenched fists?

ROTFreekingFLMAO. That's funny visual, i don't care who you are.

"I would like to hear from the Marine that he had an argument with at the Safeway before the shooting."

Yes. Who first reported this story about Fuller getting into an argument with a Marine? Has this Marine been identified?

In the coming years it's going to be a LOT easier to commit someone involuntarily.

As in Moscow's “Serbsy Institute,” where political enemies went in sane and left broken, mad, or in a box.

Word to the wise, on political “agitators.”

Very odd, the whole thing is odd. I’m sure in the coming days we are going to find out lots of things about Jame Eric Fuller.

One thing that made me laugh, is that he spent 10 years studying library books. ????

Loughner and Fuller live less than a mile apart. You could walk, bike, or drive it in about 10-12 minutes.

Oh, and Fuller is a chauffeur, AKA taxi driver.

I don’t even want to think where this could go. But I’m seeing a very dark possibility here. The idea that this guy Fuller may have driven Loughner to the Safeway is unsettling. I don’t want to emulate the lefty loonies, but if the taxi story is true, something stinks.

Get used to it, something is really rotten in Tucson.

Fuller is a book guy. He a BDS liberal... Jared was a volunteer in 2010 at Tucson Festival of Books...Jared’s torture and genocide video focused on the campus PD, the bookstore for selling/not selling some books, and the “illegal” war.

Now we hear that Fuller went to the Loughner’s house to talk to his parents, to forgive? Jared?

ROFL!

He was “passionate” about liberal causes as opposed to TEA Partiers who are (insert inflammatory rhetoric here) about conservative causes.

"Began life as a computer operator, military service leading to non-physical disability, unable to resume career, left main stream and lived in small towns for a decade studying library books and piano, moved into Tucson in 1994"

Now, wait right there.

I'm not unsympathetic to PTSD. I've seen more parts of Iraq and Afghanistan than most Iraqis and Afghans. BUT, what is he saying here? Either he was a computer operator in the military or before, saw some s***, and was unable to work with computers any more?

Vietnam was before my time. I wasn't there, don't know how it was. But Jesus, that was a long time ago. How do you live this long without coming to terms with it?

I say this as someone who once jumped behind his couch after being startled by fireworks, and still notices things out of place on the sides of roads. Sure, you carry part of it with you forever. I understand that. But the whole thing? This guy needed to have a stern talk with his mirror decades ago.

If he had some pre-existing crazy, well, that might be an issue too, I guess.

What is the source of this?

Don’t forget this: “About Me:

Non-deep pocket with a lot of heart. Began life as a computer operator, military service leading to non-physical disability, unable to resume career, left main stream and lived in small towns for a decade studying library books and piano, moved into Tucson in 1994 and worked as a Chauffeur for most of 10 years, presented state-wide initiatives at libraries, worked elections, in ’09 worked at the Census Bureau as a field rep and a clerk. Non drinker for one year, non smoker for 40 years.”
