“Who gives their mother a refurbished vacuum cleaner...”

Certain companies like Overstock.com offers refurbished vacuum cleaners for less than half price. If you want a really good one like a Dyson, would you rather pay close to $450 dollars plus or a refurbished one with a warranty? Okay, at some point, someone else owned the vacuum and returned it but it is better in most cases than buying one at a yard sale or thrift shop. Money is tight.... getting a brand that you like/want at less money is the way to go. IMHO (p.s. I have one in my closet and it works like a gem... no drugs in it)

I think “refurbished” is code for “shove it in a new box and ship it.”

If not, the money used to by even a used vacuum could have easily bought a more thoughtful gift.

I always got her a power tool or a set of socket wrenches. :-)

Who gives their mother a refurbished vacuum cleaner for Christmas!?

Same person who might give them a washing machine so they don't have to go to the laundromat to wash the clothes. For working folks, utility saving gifts are sometimes well appreciated.
