Rick Warren hosts 'cult' celebrity docs Features promoters of Eastern mysticism, universalism

When megachurch pastor Rick Warren decided he needed to take his health seriously, he responded in typically ambitious fashion, launching a year-long health program for his church, "The Daniel Plan," written with the help of three celebrity doctors who will appear at a kickoff seminar today.

But critics point out the physicians who crafted the program apparently don't share the church's professed evangelical beliefs, espousing instead various forms of Eastern mysticism and the tenets of a Christian cult, Swedenborgism.

Vowing to lose 90 pounds, Warren said he placed himself under the care of Drs. Mehmet Oz, Daniel Amen and Mark Hyman last fall and worked with each to develop "The Daniel Plan."

Oz, host of the Emmy-winning "Dr. Oz Show" and professor of surgery at Columbia University, says he is inspired by Emanuel Swedenborg, an 18th century cult founder who taught that all religions lead to God and denied orthodox Christian beliefs such at the atonement of Christ for sin, the trinity and the deity of the Holy Spirit.

Best-selling author Amen, a professor of psychiatry at the University of California at Irvine, teaches Eastern religious meditation and the New Age energy-based practice of Reiki.

So this "pastor" leads his flock astray by promoting Obama, now he promotes these doctors (who subscribe to evil beliefs, I might add) into his "church". Does anyone take this crook seriously anymore? Sheesh!

Are you saying Christians should only see doctors who share their faith? They shouldn’t have a Jewish doctor either?

I would hardly equate Judaism with Reiki. I’m saying this guy who is a “pastor” is encouraging his congregation to seek out the advice of these drs who very well may lead them astray. Don’t you get that?

The point is, this guy has claimed to be a Christian. Clearly, he’s as untrustworthy as they come.

I'm a Christian and I have a Jewish doctor.

Maybe I don't have all the information, but this kinda odd to me.

What to expect, though, this is California we're talking about here.

Were they actually teaching mysticism or were they doctors who happen to be believers in other faiths? There is a big difference. If they aren’t actually teaching their religion but simply using medical knowledge, I’m fine with it. Some things we used to consider mystic medical practice, like acupuncture, are now known to be legitimate medical practices for some things.

“Christians should only see doctors who share their faith?”

Rick Warren is pushing to his congregation people who are espousing in their own life and asking Christians to practice Eastern type mysticism. Rick Warren is passing this as Christianity while it really is hokus-pokus voodoo style indoctrination.

So it would be like going to a Jewish doctor and being told to keep your house kosher and read the Talmud as the remedy for being over weight.

I’d hardly expect my pastor to encourage me to take the advice of a psychiatrist who believes in healing through meditation & Reiki. Evil evil evil! Talk about opening one up for the influences of Satan!

Those who equate this with a Jew seeing a Christian dr or vice versa are missing the point. This relativistic way of thinking is why we have the problems we do today. Rick Warren is a salesman and a joke.

But Jewish people do share our faith whereas the Buddha, Shinto, Wicca etc. etc. do not.

It's one thing to go see a doctor who has a different faith (or has no faith at all) but it's another thing to be promoting a different faith. That said, this is Rick Warren we're talking about so I'm sure reiki, eastern mysticism and anything else the cat drags in falls into his belief system. I wonder if Warren's flock actually read the Bible?

Anyone know much about Rick Warren? The small groups I was involved with was doing the series, healing choices and had video segments and Rick Warren was the speaker, he struck me as a snake oil salesman, and I wasn’t comfortable with him.

Have you ever attended his church and heard an actual sermon or just second hand online? I don’t attend his church, I attend another mega church nearby, but I attend Bible studies with other women that attend Saddleback, and my daughter attends a homeschool activity with several women who are pastor’s wives from there. Everyone I talk to from there is pretty straight and narrow as far as the Word.

I wouldn’t go to Dr. Amen for spiritual guidance, but I would for some medical guidance.

Maybe he wouldn’t be a “mega”church pastor if folks didn’t give him mega-publicity.

I totally agree with everything you've said. There are many, many charlatans out there. Warren, Osteen, Jakes, Meyer ~ none of them can be trusted to be faithful to the gospel found in my Bible. I read nothing they, or others like them, put out and I work in a Christian bookstore!

Has Rickie even read Daniel?

Daniel 1:15 ESV At the end of ten days it was seen that they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the king's food.

Not much of a diet plan, Rickie

To all FREEPERS.

Go back as fat as freerepubic allows — I posted that Rick Warren was a sheep in wolf’s clothing BEFORE the Gore interview, the North Korea Visit, etc.

This guy (Warren) literally believes the ends justify the means.

When you combine this with religion (or government), it’s VERY dangerous.
