Jeb to GOP: How to Appeal to Hispanics (Hint: Bigger Entitlements ISN'T the Answer!)
WSJ ^ | 1/17/11 | MARY ANASTASIA O'GRADY

f Republicans were to run a classified ad for their 2012 presidential candidate, it might read something like this: GOP seeks popular former two-term governor of a large state for executive post. Qualified applicants will have a demonstrated understanding of the relationship between taxes and growth, a proven record on choice in education, and an ability to draw Hispanic voters. A commitment to states' rights and the U.S. constitution is a must.

Screw Jeb. I’ve had enough Bushes to last a lifetime. Two failed presidencies is enough for one family.

Jeb is pissibtg me off with his interviews lately- what they hell is he doing acting as if republicans dont want hispanics and must be more inclusive.

I welcome ANYONE OF ANY ETHINCE OR RELIGIOUS group as long as they love the USA, do not arrive illegally to milk the system, and are not communists.

Jeb has no credibility on the immigration issue as he has a built-in bias.

He is married to a mexican lady who he became infatuated with when he lived in Mexico as a high school exchange student.

How about we leave the ethnic pandering to the scumbags in the other party.

What this country really needs is another amnesty-promoting, Spanish speaking President who is indifferent to America’s historic people and culture.

Yeah, that’s the ticket.

That is the key to the debate to me.

With regard to assimilation, he says, Hispanics have much to be proud of. “Second-generation Hispanics marry non-Hispanics at a higher rate than second-generation Irish or Italians. Second-generation Hispanics’ English language capability rates are higher than previous immigrant groups’.”

If he could convince me of that I’d say open the border. I don’t believe it. I fear (and I believe it’s a valid fear) that a mass immigration will bring the failed Mexican culture of corruption and poverty hear.

That’s the question, do will they turn themselves into Americans, or will they turn America into Mexico.

Couldn’t we drop the Bush Derangement Syndrome and talk about what he actually said?

He has some interesting observations in here, and I think they’re worthy of discussion.

I thought he had some good ideas in this area. One of the things that was actually good about his brother’s suggested immigration bill was that it stressed assimilation (learning English, studying US history and civics, defunding agencies or initiatives that were essentially separatist, etc.). I was sorry to see that aspect didn’t get more play, although I imagine the Dems didn’t like it, since they thrive on separatism.

This didn’t relate only to Latin Americans, but since they are right next door, they are likely to be our biggest immigrant group. However, I thought the assimilation requirement/enncouragement would be good in general, because it would offer assistance in assimilation (English and civics classes, for example) to good faith immigrants, while preventing those who immigrate because they want to change us (all the Muslims we are being forced to accept from the ME and Africa) from setting up separate enclaves and pressuring us to change.

The best encouragement to assimilation is to keep them a minority. Does that sound cruel? Tough.

As if the form of amnesty Jeb wants isn’t the biggest entitlement to law-breaking non-Americans ever!

Jeb says, One possibility is “one of the states not being able to deal with its pension obligations and its structural budget problems.” That could, in turn, “change the international financial community’s regard for sovereign risk in the United States.”

This is already happening. For examples states such as Calif, Michigan, are drying up.Jobs are leaving their states.Parts of Michigan, look like ghost towns, with abandoned boarded up houses, businesses buildings, there is Record $14 trillion-plus debt weighs on Congress, the U.S. is reaching the point of where it cannot pay it’s debts. Bush needs to find something else to do that might be of interest.
He is behind the times
