Reclaiming New Mexico: Arizona's Restrictionist Next Door Neighbor
Youth for Western Civilization ^ | January 17, 2011 | William L. Houston

Last September, I drew attention to some strange polling that I had come across in New Mexico.

I was astonished to learn at the time that 53 percent of New Mexico voters supported Arizona's SB 1070. That included 39 percent of Hispanics in New Mexico.

How can this be?

Why would Hispanics support Arizona's "racist papers please" law in such large numbers? Progressive Democrats in the mainstream media have spent months telling America that the Republican Party is doomed in 2012 because "nativists" are alienating the fast growing Hispanic electorate.

Fastforward to January 2010.

New Mexico, the state where Hispanics make up their largest share of the electorate in America, has a new Republican Governor.

72 percent of New Mexico voters oppose the state's current policy of granting driver's licenses to illegal aliens. By race, 76 percent of Anglos and 67 percent of Hispanics in New Mexico - an overwhelming majority - oppose the 2003 law and the Democratic Party's pandering to illegal aliens.

84 percent of New Mexico voters support Albuquerque's policy of checking the immigration status of all people who are booked into jail. This includes 79 percent of Hispanics.

Susana Martinez, the new Republican Governor of New Mexico, has made abolishing the unpopular 2003 law one of her top priorities. It was one of her favorite talking points on the campaign trail. . . .

Proof that standing up for secure borders AND ridding the country of illegal aliens boosts the GOP’s standing with the voters. Pandering to the Open Borders crowd impresses no one one, not Americans victimized by them nor Hispanics whom the GOP leadership would like to win over.

This pretty much jives with my beloved as family Mexican American friends who don’t much appreciate the welfare-job grabbing illegals here in California. They know their scams and are sick of it.

I hate to be cynical, but I’m reminded of the old camp song, “If you get to heaven before I do”. Perhaps you’ve heard it.

Simple - New Mexico has a lot of native-born Hispanics. And those tend to oppose amnesty and illegal immigration.

It’s simple. It’s the “legal” standing up for their legality and against the organized, orchestrated plan to benefit to law-breakers.

I am just glad to see drivers licenses with be taken away in what is said to take place 2012.The Hispanics need to realize illegal Immigration is going to being hurting them just as much as it does anybody else born here or came through legal channels.Unless action is taken states across, America will be a reflection what Mexico was once was, is now what American has become. We will mirror that country within 20 years.
