Obama announces review of government regulations 20 mins ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama said on Tuesday he would order a government-wide review of regulations with the goal of eliminating those that hurt job creation and make the U.S. economy less competitive.

In an op-ed piece in The Wall Street Journal, Obama said some government regulations have placed "unreasonable burdens on business -- burdens that have stifled innovation and have had a chilling effect on growth and jobs."

He said he would require that in the future government agencies "ensure that regulations protect our safety, health and environment while promoting economic growth."

The president has recently ratcheted up efforts to soothe relations with the business community, after alienating corporate America through rhetorical attacks against Wall Street and an agenda heavy on regulation.

Business leaders say government regulations, including those being written for the healthcare overall and financial reform, have hurt job creation at a time of high unemployment.

"It's a review that will help bring order to regulations that have become a patchwork of overlapping rules, the result of tinkering by administrations and legislators of both parties and the influence of special interests in Washington over decades," Obama wrote.

Gotta make sure that those regulations are working for business!

You know, the ones that support Democrats for office... those businesses.

"ensure that regulations protect our safety, health and environment while promoting economic growth."

In today's political newspeak, that could be interpreted to mean most anything, and probably will be sufficient to placate the starry-eyed.

So far, everything this administration has done has harmed every industry except the parasite sector and government. I anticipate little change in that (more of the cronies will get more money siphoned off from the taxpayer).

As a political tactic, it’s brilliant. He’s doing an end run on the Republican Cpngreass who were going to make the overreach of government regulations on of the centerpieces of their hearings. He just aced them. Obama will now determine which regulations are harmful: NONE OF THEM! SURPRISE!!!

With all respect... I disagree... he is a liar and his base hates business... he will lose on this and every other piece of tactical crap he pulls. Rasmussen has him going down in approval... today will continue his downward spiral. abc and the propagandists have push polls full of special sauce and only adults to make you think otherwise... but the “truth is out there”... X-Files style.

In all seriousness, I think your estimate of the number of pages may be low. Seriously.

I didn’t say he was right. Ofcourse, he’s a lying commie. The President of the US, however, no matter who he is, can command the microphone. The press will not televise or report on the hearings. They will wait for Obama to announce that all of his new regulations are great.

It will be up to the Pubbies to defund them. But as far as winning the propaganda war, he just aced us on regulations. He got out in front of the Republicans. Who will get the air time? Obama or Darrel Issa? or Paul Ryan? The only time Boehner will be on TV is when the RATS make him cry. DEFUNDING THE EPA AD OTHER REGULATORY CZARS IS THE ONLY ANSWER.

Pence, boehner and others were talking about this weeks ago. You give the guy credit where credit is not due. The entire election was about deregulation... and the republicans have already started canvassing businesses to see which regs need to go. They did that last week... but the press did not report it... they never will. People need to know that the press hates us and will never be on our side or ever report the truth when it hurts dims.
