The White House

Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release January 18, 2011 Fact Sheet: The President's Regulatory Strategy Today, President Obama signed an Executive Order outlining his regulatory strategy to support continued economic growth and job creation, while protecting the safety, health and rights of all Americans. This strategy builds on best practices of the past, while adapting to challenges the country faces today and establishing a smart path for the future. As part of the immediate implementation of this strategy, the President also issued a memorandum to the heads of Executive Agencies and Departments calling for more transparency and accountability in regulatory compliance, as well as a memorandum emphasizing the need to reduce burdens on small businesses whenever possible.

The new Executive Order can be found HERE .

Executive Order on Improving Regulation and Regulatory Review

In this Executive Order, the President requires Federal agencies to design cost-effective, evidence-based regulations that are compatible with economic growth, job creation, and competitiveness. It outlines following guiding principles:

•Cost-effective and Cost-Justified: Consistent with law, Agencies must consider costs and benefits and choose the least burdensome path. •Transparent: The regulatory process must be transparent and include public participation, with an opportunity for the public to comment.

•Coordinated and Simplified: Agencies must attempt to coordinate, simplify, and harmonize regulations to reduce costs and promote certainty for businesses and the public.

•Flexible: Agencies must consider approaches that maintain freedom of choice and flexibility, including disclosure of relevant information to the public.

•Science-driven: Regulations must be guided by objective scientific evidence.

•Necessary and Up-to-Date: Existing regulations must be reviewed to determine that they are still necessary and crafted effectively to solve current problems. If they are outdated, they must be changed or repealed.

Cost-effective and Cost-Justified
Coordinated and Simplified
Flexible
Science-driven
Necessary and Up-to-Date

The Federal Govt is unable and unwilling to accomplish any of the above.

Fine - he doesn’t want or believe this himself. I say hold this over his head during every EPA, FDA, HS and all CZAR news stories....
“In compliance with President Obama’s dictate to curtail unproductive regulations, we, the EPA, freely admit the proposed regulation to (fill in the blank)is harmful to free enterprise but we still want it so go stuff it cause we know better than you do.”

Yes, it is purely a 2012 Campaign ploy to deflect any discussion of the outragous behavour of the agencies bypassing Congress and following Obama orders to crack down on citizens and business.

you’d think legislators would be upset with being replaced by bureaucrats.
Why have faith in a two party system when actual elections mean nothing because we’re being ‘ruled’ by ‘elites’?

...........Science-driven................

I can’t wait to see all the science drivers that will allow the EPA to shut down CO2 emitters.

I’m sure that it will be algore peer reviewed!

more co-opting of crony businesses who actually rely on Federal regulations to keep tilting the table in their direction.

The one problem I see with Legi’s is that they don’t pay attention to what the agencies are doing. (yes I really believe that)
ONLY when the electorate gets po;d do they even take a look.

Repub nature is not to fight, just block.
All the while the Zero admin is setting up the 2012 Campaign propaganda.

Sounds way too good to be true.

...Existing regulations must be reviewed to determine that they are still necessary and crafted effectively to solve current problems. If they are outdated, they must be changed or repealed....

necessary - to whom?
crafted effectively - to what end exactly?
solve current problems - who defines what the problem is, or the solution?
If they are outdated - the Constitution is outdated according to some.
must be changed or repealed - to what? Who decides?

I wanted to see something like this for years but I don't trust the current regime to wield this sword correctly.
They will pick and choose changes that will make things easier for them and their cronies.
Does anyone really believe they suddenly became pro-business?

Exactly, there was some murmurings about the agencies from congress.
The Admin is trying yet again to coopt the issue.
They have NO intention of cutting regs or even doing a serious look at the regs.

CONGRESS should be doing this right NOW.
