Pro-Life Liberal Sargent Shriver Dies; Democratic Challenger to Obama Emerges
Catholic Online ^ | 1/19/11 | Deacon Keith Fournier

Tuesday, Sargent Shriver died at the age of 95. His beloved wife Eunice Kennedy Shriver predeceased him. Together they founded the Special Olympics and dedicated their lives to caring for those to whom too many pay little or no attention. They were the last of an increasingly rare breed of people, consistent liberals who recognize the dignity of every human life from conception to natural death and actually allow that fundamental truth to inform their lives of public service...

The Shriver's stood in the proud tradition of ... Pennsylvania Governor Bob Casey. He was a great champion of all the poor and a candidate whom I proudly supported in his bid for the White House. He was censored at the National Democratic Convention when the forces of death on demand in the name of "choice" took over that once great Party. He and the Shriver's heard the cries of all of the poor, including those whom Mother Teresa rightly called "the poorest of the poor", children living in the first home of the whole human race who have no voice but our own.

On January 22, 2011 our Nation marks an infamous anniversary, the Supreme Court's "legalization" of the taking of innocent human life in the womb through its decisions in Roe v Wade and Doe v Bolton. ...

...No Political party which claims to champion human rights can be anything but Pro-life. Abortion is the great sin against human solidarity and its embrace by the liberal community has undermined its moral claim to care about the poor.

...There was another interesting news story on the same day of the sad news of the passing of Sargent Shriver... the first challenger to President Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination in 2012 has emerged, Randall Terry, the long time Pro-Life champion....

Along with his late wife Eunice, Sargent Shriver belonged to America's dwindling population of Pro-life liberals. They were Pro-Life Democrats. Abortion is the great sin against human solidarity and its embrace by the liberal community has undermined its moral claim to care about the poor. There was another interesting news story on the same day of the sad news of the passing of Sargent Shriver which has implications for the Democratic Primaries for President. Because I would still like to see Pro-Life people in both parties, I believe it is time to shake them both up. The first challenger to President Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination has emerged, Randall Terry, the long time Pro-Life champion. This will be an interesting campaign season...

I’ve met him, heard him speak at my church(not a catholic one) and knew of Randall Terry’s early Operation Rescue days when he lived around Binghamton, NY where I grew up. If Terry is really going to do this, he will do it full bore, (think amped up Palin on super spiritual steroids)! Terry will not back down to the PC police and the NOW gang will have fits! If another Dem also runs in the primaries, Terry will take support away from Obama.

The media guns won’t know who to fire at...Terry or Palin!

Terry is about God and the unborn, Terry is very outspoken and will do the things he feels in his conscience he must do...win or lose!

My favorite Sargent Shriver story involved him being on the campaign trail in ‘72 with a bunch of coal miners at a tavern in West Virginia. Allegedly he said something along the lines of “Gee, you fellas are swell! Bartender, beers for everyone in the house! And a Courvoisier for me.”

RIP.

We'll find out how genuinely pro-life the Shrivers are when Mark Shriver runs for office again in Maryland. I bet he runs “pro-choice”.

I’m saying he’ll be speaking around the edges, times up or not.

I’ve met and spoken with (and have followed his politcs) Randall Terry and he has strong support though not enough to win elections; he’ll get folks to join the Dem party just to vote for him in the Primaries. If another Dem joins the primary against Obama, Terry will sap Obama’s support via prolife Catholics...then it will be Terry who plays king maker and will control the message.

The Dems’s may have just met their equivalent of HRoss Perot...at least in the primary sense.
