SEATTLE -- The American Civil Liberties Union of Washington is suing King County over its refusal to place advertisements critical of the Israeli government on Metro buses.
The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court says Metro had a long history of allowing noncommercial advertisements on its buses, and that makes the buses a traditional public forum. The ACLU says the county's refusal to run ads that said "Israeli War Crimes: Your Tax Dollars at Work" violates the First Amendment rights of the group that sought to run the ads.
The county received complaints asking officials to block the ad from running, and the county agreed last month. Officials announced that they would immediately change Metro's policy to no longer allow any noncommercial advertising on buses, no matter what the message.
ACLU defending public tax dollars spent to promote anti-Semitism. I wonder if they would do the same on behalf of a banned Ku Klux Klan advertisement.
So if some whack job goes after Muslims then the local mosque can sue the ACLU for allowing it to use inflammatory speech?

What about the freedom to run ads which would connect homosexual activity to AIDS? Would the ACLU file lawsuits for the freedom to run ads on that issue????

I hope we all know that the ACLU does not represent anything one would call “civil” or “liberty” - the “organization” might be correctly be renamed the American Communist Litigation Union.
Since when can a private entity “dictate” (albeit through the courts) what a government agency must advertise?
Good question. They are not supposed to discriminate. If they accept any political advertising, they need to accept it all.
