I see Omar the tent maker has been busy sewing up the first broads attire. I know an old saying and it goes like this: That is like trying to put a silk stocking on a sow. No matter what ya do there is still a hog underneath.

Some of you folks are hilarious and I understand the temptation but you can be as funny targeting them for their murderous scary ideology. So many smart and witty people here I just think it's wasted on Wookie comments and Hillary being??? Hillary.

The Carol Burnett curtain dress is on display in the Smithsonian near the First Lady Dresses. I saw Michelle's Inaugural gown and, yes, just like the pictures, it really does look like someone took an old white chenille bedspread and made her dress. Her shoes are so big that they could have used them alone to plug the Louisiana oil spill.

At any rate, as I was leaving I saw the curtain dress and realized that it was better made than Michelle's and Carol Burnett was more presentable in it than was our "First Lady".

This red thing looks like a tie-dye experiment that went awry in Home Ec.

Did he come back from the grave to design it or did he “channel” it?

Red dress = good luck in Chinese yet the designer of the RED dress committed SUICIDE a couple of years ago? Michelle? You aware?

“The dress was designed by the label of Alexander McQueen, a beloved British designer who committed suicide less than a year ago.”

Hmmmmmm.....

BTW, Rush was right...no one wants to watch The Beast grow old.

As an amateur fashion critic I would give the dress a B-. I think she played it safe and the result is a little boring. Plus, why did she have to wear red? Do you always have to dress according to the visiting president’s flag colors? I know she’s trying to honor her guest, but really, it’s kind of a silly notion.

The dress is more orange than red anyway—compare it to the red carpet they are standing on—and it’s really your basic satin ballgown, although I don’t think the layer in front particularly flatters her figure. She likes to cover her behind with shawls (what woman wants to be photographed from the rear?), but this one looks like she grabbed it at the last minute—it doesn’t look formal and the prints and odd colors distract from the gown.

Her hair is a mess though, sorta the Bride of Frankenstein look that Scarlett Johansson wore the other night at the Golden Globes.

Considering she is tall and, (how do I say this delicately?), she doesn’t have to worry about looking pasty or covering tan lines and she can has the money she should hit a home run every time.

We probably have to agree to disagree as I certainly see some things on FR that I think are beneath this forum also and it’s probably not what you see :-)

Didn’t mean to jump on you about Hillary - sorry!

Dang - I clicked on the lthread thinking it said STEVE McQueen. But with the oil splotch pattern - maybe it WAS!?

I think the dress is okay - a bit too stylish and “modern” from what I am used to seeing for a State dinner, but I guess I’m just too old-fashioned.

LOL! Steve McQueen...what a comparison.

You’re not old fashioned. I think that you believe as I do, that the first lady should dress traditionally and classy.

Even if that dress was meant to be off shoulder...which I don’t think it is, and that Mrs. O wore it that way because that’s what she wanted to do...it’s tacky.

ROGULSKI: Why are you here?

Michelle: To get some dresses.

ROGULSKI: How did you get the dresses?

Michelle: Obama money.

ROGULSKI: Where’s it coming from?

Michelle: Obama.

ROGULSKI: And where did Obama get it?

Michelle: I don’t know, his stash. I don’t know. (laughter)

This is the first time that I’ve seen the First Frump actually look elegant. The orange-red complements her skin and her body. The dangling shoulder is a tad strange, but the overall look suits her well.
