while the staff member “played” with him before slicing his neck

Anyone who has ever believed that human behavior is innately good should learn from this. Compassion and respect for other people are taught to children.

There is a vicious, vicious culture existing in our society -- not one intentionally designed to be so -- just one that exists because of ignorance and neglect. I realize this isn't particularly profound, but I'm so angry after reading this I had to write it down.

Interesting to note that Philly.com disabled “comments” for this article.

“Compassion and respect for other people are taught to children”

I agree but I think our society (and I truly hate to say this) has endorsed a anti-life value. A baby is “tissue”... “abortion reduces poverty and crime”.... “without abortion, women would be dying from botched ones by the thousands and thousands”... I have a feeling this will soon apply to anyone over 65 as well. “they lived their life”, “they are sucking out money through expensive healthcare”, “they should die so the young can thrive”... I guess “personhood” only applies to a selective group defined by society. That is one reason I pray each and every night.
