Obviously, there are instances where police overstep the line. But I'd hazard a guess that your average cop is not running around itching to shoot dogs.

There seems to be a rather prevalent opinion on this website that all cops are mindless, jack-booted minions of the state. Many, many cops are conservative, patriotic Americans.

I was discussing this detective, this dog, and this instance.

There are those in the criminal element who would view this as a golden opportunity.

If a criminal invaded this Private Citizen’s home, then this man will be doubly victimized—by the detective who terminated his home’s first defense—and by the criminal who took advantage of the terminator detective’s actions.

But, of course, the Supreme Court has ruled that police have no obligation to protect any private citizen, yet this detective unlawfully deprived the citizen of his property.

It seems that not only do the police have no lawful obligation to “protect” their fellow citizens, but the criminal element among the police also have no qualms in removing a very effective means for a private citizen to protect himself and his property.
