“Politicians just like to state the 10-year total because it sounds more impressive.”

2.5 trillion over ten years is a drop in the bucket.

They make it ten years because they know they won’t be held accountable in 10 years. If they made the promise to cut now, they know we’re watching. Politicians will be politicians.

Agreed, but this is just a start. More cutting is on the way.
