His biological mother retained custody throughout.
Birth certificates are sealed only in closed adoptions.
Thank you.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Interesting that Hawaii has a convenient little law barring BCs to be made public, if that person doesn’t give said permission. When did they enact this law and why?
I think an entire country has a “right” to see the BC, whether Barry gives his permission or not!
My son-in-law was legally adopted by his “stepfather” after his father’s death and his mother’s remarriage and his ORIGINAL STATE ISSUED BIRTH CERTIFICATE lists his”stepfather” as his father. There is no mention of his birth father nor of his original last name. This was in PA and he is close in age to BHO.
Wrong. I’ve done uncontested step parent adoptions. Same thing.
“This is not a case of a child being given up by both his biological parents and his custody being transferred to two non-biologically-related parents.
His biological mother retained custody throughout.
Birth certificates are sealed only in closed adoptions.”
I’m afraid you are wrong, at least in my case. Not only was there no secrecy involved because I was 11 years old when my stepfather adopted us (as he had recently married our widdowed mother, so it was only one parent adopting), the court had my older brother and I sign that we wanted to be adopted!).
Michigan still refused to give me my original birth certificate (as of a few years ago) unless I hired a Michigan attorney to unseal the records. All they would give me is a “certificate of registration” listing my mother and stepfather as parents, my date of birth, registration number and the date the certificate was originally issued.
I am trying again to get my original birth certificate. Maybe their policies have changed.
