16 Flood Victims Raised from the Dead in Brazil Saturday, January 22, 2011 By Bethel Church (RSS)

A nurse is leading a mission team of doctors and nurses to Brazil. They left on Jan 13, 2011. They are still there until the 28th. On the 12th there had been massive flooding in Brazil and over 600 people died. They were not going for this reason but the timing of their trip just happened to coincide.

Only one on the team had ever experienced the power of the Holy Spirit or miracles for that matter!! She had asked her friends to pray, and they did.

You are right, no one has the power to raise the dead. But God does. And the truth in this story will come out eventually. I say trust, but verify.

The more time we spend spreading the gospel of Christ, the less time we have to believe these crazy stories of healings.

Exactly. Unfortunately, your statements will not set well with the FR charismatics. They are focused on the manifestations of the Holy Spirit. A wise theologian once posed this statement and question to me: "Your focus must always be Christ-centered. If you are focused on the Holy Spirit, then what is the source of that focus?". Pneumatology is shaky theology.

Hi kingspins10!

I just posted my doubts about this particular story. However, I think your request should be restated:

I know the NT from front to back.

Show me where other than the first century apostles raised the dead:

First, your request is an historical non sequitur. Anyone familiar with the NT would realize that the last book was written around 90AD. Therefore, it would be very unlikely to give an "account" of anyone beyond the first century raising the dead.

That being said, I think that you should have requested that someone show a New Testament passage which would indicate that healing power would be vested in someone other than a first century Apostle.

Some Christians believe that the miraculous manifestations of the Holy Spirit were limited to the first century in order to help the Church be launched. A seminary professor I was listening to last week [Dr. Donald Fortson - RTS Seminary - iTunes U - Church History 1] suggested that these miraculous events may have stopped once the Canon was adopted. He pointed out that that should be considered since many of the Apostolic Fathers from the first century reported such occurrences in many accounts, but it dies down rapidly after Constantine.

At any rate, it seems that the belief that the miraculous has ceased seems to be based in traditions rather than any specific Biblical passage.

Since I believe in the Providence of God and that He is intimately involved with His Church, I see no statement to the effect that He would limit his involvement to the "non-miraculous".

I really think the burden of proof is on those who believe that God chooses to not employ miracles in this age. Got any passages to throw out there to state otherwise? :)

Paul and the apostles didn’t raise anyone from the dead; God did, through them, and He still can.

Sorry, Kinpins10, but I am living proof that you are wrong. I was raised from the dead in 1996 by the power of prayer of believing Christians. Two of the nurses who witnessed this became believers in Christ and my Jewish doctor said that a miracle had happened. So, yes, miracles are happening today by the grace of Almighty God.

I'll raise you two "nonsenses"! :) The article on Bethel church is simply a copy of the one on the site you posted. There is also NO NAMES GIVEN and the link to photos at AOL does not corroborate the story.

The web is full of urban legends. Let's not contribute.

What was your impression of the event? How long were your “dead”? Did you have an out of body experience or a dream-like experience? Please tell!

I think you are right. We, truly are living in the last days before the return of Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches there will be scoffers and those who deny the power of God. What was it Jesus said? They have a form of godliness, but, deny the power thereof?

I don’t know if this story is true or not, but, I’ve read similar stories from around the world. If people would just open their hearts to the truth of what an awesome, powerful God we serve, then perhaps they would be shaken out of their complacency.

I did go to the website. I did attempt to validate. I will not stand by anonymous sourced stories which provide no names of individuals involved. It simply cannot be verified in its present form.

Consider the story of Jim Elliot. We have his name. We have the names of the Indians who actually killed him. They testify to the angelic host who were present at his death. This is a story with live witnesses. That is the basis of verification.

My impression was that the event was life-changing. All of my priorities in life are different now. I learned what is really important: God, family, friends, truth ... and not things.

I was cold, my body was blue and fluids were going through body tissues, resulting in great swelling of my head and body. Blood PH was such as not to sustain life.

As for dreamlike experience, do you mean the type of feelings pilots get when they go through the centrifuge training? That’s what often occurs when your brain blacks out or shuts down ... and, no, I did not experience this.

It didn’t sound as though the ones quoted was in Heaven. But I have heard of people who chose to return although they wanted to stay. They wanted to share what they knew; they also said they were no longer afraid of dying.

Did you have any recollection during your time of death. Lots of folks talk about "seeing a light". Most have pleasant memories. Some report being "outside" their own bodies and seeing themselves laid out.

You make it sound like you just went blank.

It surprised me that the people reported to be resurrected in this particular article seemed to have a very unpleasant experience while they were gone.

All I’m saying is that if you want to know more about this story there is a website where you can make contact and discuss it with people involved. I also have another website for a ministry that is involved with miraculous events including the dead being raised. That site is http://www.sethbarnes.com/index.asp?filename=heidi-baker-expects-miracles-so-should-you ..I hope this is helpful.
