Most states require fingerprints, but about 10% do not. I don't believe fingerprints can be shown to be cost effective.

The key to Boxer's “common sense” legislation is that it forces all states to institute a may issue system in order to carry a concealed weapon. This gives some police chief or sheriff the ability to deny you a permit by whim, and plenty of incentive (because of perceived liability) to deny it. Most people who are given this authority do not have the fortitude to grant permits to any law abiding citizen, and they end up granting them only to well connected people and cronies.

“while three states, including Arizona, allow residents to carry concealed firearms in public without a permit.”

More are coming. I predict that two more states will adopt Constitutional Carry by the end of 2011.

Sounds good to me. Let’s just refine the terms of the hypothetical bill.

Common sense is that when a gunman WITHOUT a concealed carry permit guns down people and was stopped by a citizen WITH a concealed carry permit - we restrict concealed carry permits?

In what Bizarro world is THAT “common sense”.

It is hard to do parody anymore.

“I already have a Federal Permit to carry...”
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.

Nice, I have a natural right to bear arms granted to me by my Creator, in addition to the ‘Federal Permit’ that recognizes this right. ;)

Shouldn’t someone ping the mod?

Boxer and common sense should not be used in the same sentence.

“But “high cap” mags over 10 rounds will be banned by 2012 and forever after. Count on it.”

Marktwain replied:

“I think you are a bit over pessimistic. How about a friendly wager? If such a bill passes by 1 January, 2012, I will buy a case of your new book, Castigo Cay. If it doesn't, you ship me a case of autographed copies for free.

Seems like a win-win to me. We could have B4Ranch or another prominent freeper judge who wins. “

Travis responded:

Marktwain replies:

I think the criteria is if future sales of magazines of more than 10 rounds are banned to citizens other than government agents after 1 January, 2010, in a bill passed by the Federal government, and signed into law. Is that what you meant?

I included all of the above for B4Ranch, and so we can refer to it in the future without going to multiple posts.

They will use Tucson to ban magazines holding more than 10 rounds, and that law will pass, count on it. And it won’t have a sunset.

I don't think they can get it through Congress.

After 2012, not 2010. Future sales of new magazines. The law might not go into effect on Jan 1, but it will be passed before then.

The Rats will find 50 RINOs who will not want their photo between Cho and Loughner on the MSM and Rat ads.

“Congressman Smith thinks that maniacs should have 33 round massacre magazines for their Glocks. He is voting against the ‘Gabby Gifford Gun Safety Act To Keep Massacre-Maker Magazines From Maniacs law’. Call Congressman Smith, and ask him why he thinks madmen should be able to kill 33 innocent victims as fast as they can pull the trigger on their pistols. Tell Congressman Smith that responsible sportsmen don’t need 33 bullets to shoot a target, or defend themselves.”

At least 50 RINOs will not want that attack against them.

Even Dick “Shotgun” Cheney says “we don’t need them.”

Also: for pistols, not necessarily pistols and rifles.
