TAMPA — A woman whom police investigated for her relationship with Dontae Morris, a suspect in two police killings, was arrested after a traffic stop Sunday on charges including 81 felony gun counts.

Alaina Nichole Riggins, 26, of Seffner was being held on $614,500 bail in a Hillsborough County jail. Among the charges, police filed one for each of the more than 70 bullets they said they found on her.

An arrest report says a Tampa officer observed a gold Toyota she was driving make repeated turns without using a signal on E Clifton Street early Sunday. The officer turned on his emergency lights and attempted to pull her over, but Riggins continued driving for three blocks before coming to a stop, the report said. When asked to get out of the car, Riggins refused and the officer pulled her out and took her into custody, the report said.

Dontae Morris? Didn’t he play for the Baltimore Ravens or some other NFL thug team?

I was thinking about her this morning. I’m following this story:

http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/crime/article1147322.ece

When the officers arrived, the “girlfriend” told the officers the suspect was in the attic...and basically they walked into an ambush as he fired on all three officers. Who knows, maybe she knew he was armed, maybe she didn’t but it seems suspicious.

re: Having a bullet is a felony??

It is when you have a criminal record, especially if you’re on parole or probation.

Under normal circumstances, no.

That's crap. A felony for each bullet. That's how they do it in Mexico.

Just more proof that we are becoming a Third World banana republic.

She must have a prior conviction on her record. I found it pretty funny that each cartridge carried a separate count.

Oh, possession of ammunition is a federal felony for a person who is a fugitive from justice (maybe the three block run renders her a fugitive); or a person who is a user of illegal drugs (so, if they find pot in the car, and ammo, she's an automatic felon); or is an illegal alien.

I presume this case is NOT a federal case, and speculate that part of Florida law is roughly parallel to the federal law.

Ambush: Trap; A place where a surprise attack is made from a place of hiding.

No one walks into one with knowledge before the fact.

There is more here.

Probably young officers with desire to make a quick arrest.

Sadly, I agree with you.

I guess they have a reason they consider valid to charge in this manner, but darned if I understand it.

I would much prefer to see them use their resources to go after others who have no business on the street.

The article says bullets, not cartridges.

How are bullets dangerous? She going to throw them at people?

That's how one knows they AREN'T bullets. When the press gets a detail like the distinction between "bullet" and "cartridge" (or "magazine" and "clip") correct, it's a rare accident.

Yep. We’ve lost our collective minds.

“Inside the car, police said, the officer found a .22 caliber semiautomatic handgun that had been concealed under her thigh on the driver’s seat, as well as marijuana and crack cocaine on the dashboard. The officer found 72 rounds of ammunition, more marijuana and $245 cash in her pockets, the report said.”

“In July, police arrested Alaina Riggins with Morris’ brother, Dwayne Callaway, at Motel 6 on Fowler Avenue on charges of possessing cocaine, marijuana and a firearm during the commission of a felony. “

She’s got a rap sheet longer than your arm. This is her third bust(I believe) for felon with a gun. Buncha drug charges. She made bail in July in no time. They want to keep her off the streets this time. She’s a thug! Charges will be reduced when she goes to court, but right now, they keep her in the jail.

See my post #17. Here’s a comment from someone who took the time to read her lengthy rapsheet;

“This crazy lady has had more convictions than i have ever seen without a trip to prison.10th times for cocaine sales,3th time felon/W gun,5 time marijuana/W intent.multiply pill sales and quit counting on no D/L.All she has done is about 4 months with 3 months house arrest.Must be some good lawyering.”

I’m just good like that.
