Just blindly copying design details can still work out poorly without the background as to why certain design decisions were made.
This is news? Every high tech piece of equipment in the Chinese Military is stolen or purchased (Thanks Bill!) from the US.
I thought that our “accidental” bombing of the Chinese embassy was supposed to destroy the remains of the stealth fighter.
You can’t expect the Chinese not to take advantage of a windfall.

I think I remember that such technology exports were transferred from the Defense Dept. to Commerce, headed by one of Bill’s chinese friends who happened to have a security clearance that he shouldn’t have had. (Wanna say Charlie Trie, but just can’t remember. Someone help me out, having a senior brain fart moment here.)
Until that happened, the Chicoms COULD NOT successfully put a satellite into orbit, or build a good jet.

I strongly suspect the ChiComs had good enough engineers to do the reverse engineering from the F-117 Clinton gave them in *his* illegal war.
I know, I know, “illegal war” has a bad ring to it as a term the left bandied about attacking Bush for invading Iraq. That war was, however, completely within the norms of international law, since we, as combatants in the Gulf War and parties to the armistice which ended it had a perfect right to resume hostilities on the basis of the perpetual violations of the armistice by the Ba’athist regime in Iraq. The NATO action against Serbia was naked aggression in defiance of international law and the NATO charter. Carried out, what’s worse, not on behalf of the national interests of any NATO member state, but on behalf of Albanian jihadis, drug-runners and white-slavers.
The ‘stupid’ part was the fact that the F-117’s flying in from Aviano (Italy) flew the same track mission after mission. Allegedly they were tipped off as to the takeoff time by spies sitting near the base. Once your enemy figures this out they can trick-up a missile radar to ‘look for’ the stealth aircraft’s signature. These things aren’t totally invisible to radar, only difficult to ‘see.’ Bammo! 1 dead stealth fighter.
OTOH, the News footage of the cash site showed a lot of scattered burning wreckage. How much of the wreck was useful is open to question.
What was valuable was the nonreflective material used in the skin of the F-117, not the design per se.
Lot of dusting off cobwebs here, but wasn’t it shot down because one of our allies let it slip exactly when and where it was going to be? Somehow I keep thinking the French were involved in us losing that plane, but I can’t remember the whole story.

Man, some people can be so naive! "Official" numbers coming out communist countries have always been pure fiction!

We can’t blame the Chinese for our nation’s stupidity. Between Clinton giving them secrets, to Clinton allowing Chinese spies in our defense facilities, to Clinton allowing US companies to make a buck selling the Chinese secret technologies, to Clinton....say, have I mentioned Clinton is the most guilty party here?
