Back in the time of Newt, I happened to be in DC at the time of this event. I was thrilled to attend, all by myself. The crowd was so insular, that I couldn’t get anyone to chat with me. I was very weird and off-putting.

I had a similar experience years ago at a Right to Life convention. It wasn't that people were unkind, but they did tend to stick with their groups, which were mostly Catholic church, parish-based.

It later occurred to me that as a stranger and a lone participant, I might have been perceived as a potential spy or mole from the pro-abort side. Or a non-sympathetic journalist looking for material to use in a mocking hit-piece.
