Does Scalia belong at Bachmann sessions?

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., raised a few eyebrows last fall when she announced plans to hold "Conservative Constitutional Seminars" for arriving members of the new GOP-controlled House.

But the decision of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia to speak at the first class on Monday has raised legal hackles about his participation in what turns out to be a closed-door event in conjunction with Bachmann's Tea Party Caucus.

One of the most outspoken critics is University of Minnesota law professor Richard Painter, chief White House ethics lawyer under former President George W. Bush. Painter notes that Bachmann is among 63 House members who filed a brief in support of a lawsuit by more than two dozen states challenging President Obama's health care overhaul. The case could easily end up before the Supreme Court.

Does SCOTUS even belong at Barry’s Big SOTU Show? The SOTU Show is a political shindig. Barry’s Big 2010 SOTU Show was proof that SCOTUS should not be there. IMHO.

Scalia will need to recuse himself in any matters dealing with the Constitution due to it being discussed at any of these sessions.

Sarcasm so thick I could cut it.

Idiot fool commies...

I would guess that he is going to teach the Constitution from his point of view, that is enough to rattle those “progressives” that see it as THEIR JOB to spread propaganda. I say appeal it to the USSC, see what they say. Personally, I think it is refreshing that a USSC sitting Justice is brave enough to show his thoughts publicly. This stands in sharp contrast to the lying and hiding of ideals that goes on when they are nominated.

It is a common occurrence for USSC Justices to address meetings of members of Congress. I am unaware of congresscritters who do not support legislation.

Scalia should be administering US Constitution comprehension exams to all ‘critters. Those who flunk don’t get to vote.

"Does SCOTUS even belong at Barry’s Big SOTU Show?"

Only if they are putting together a "to do" list.

So an arbiter of Consitutional jurisprudence is not allowed to speak/instruct on Constitutional matters?

The twisted logic of the left makes my head hurt.

Oh wait, they don’t want lawmakers to understand or adhere to the Constitution.

Is Scalia getting paid to offer legal advice? If not, the Professor should keep his teeth together and go back to work.

“Anybody?? “

Well, if he takes a bribe from her, then I have a problem with it. Otherwise, he’s more than free to associate with anyone he wants to, listen to anyone speak, and read whatever he wants. At least that’s my understanding of America.

As for appearances - spare me. We have a former ALCU leader on the Court, so I guess that’s not a factor.

Well, I’m not a legal expert, but this is totally stupid. Of course Supreme Court Justices can give talks. The do it all the time. And why would he have to recuse himself?

Do you think the Wise Latina will recuse herself from any decisions involving Mexicans because she belonged to La Raza?

Look, the very republic is at stake here and folks who shive a git as to the outcome — including a justice of the SCOTUS — is more than within his rights to help turn the progressive onslaught! With Obozo trying to PACK THE COURT, I’m praying that the none of the conservatives justices fall ill or die until we can rid ourselves of Obozo.

More power to Scalia.
