Texas GOP pushing hard for voter ID bill

AUSTIN, TX (AP) - Texas Republicans are making a hard push to require voters to show photo identification before casting their ballots.

The Senate acted quickly on Gov. Rick Perry's emergency declaration for the bill, scheduling public testimony on the bill for Tuesday with a possible vote on the bill late in the day or on Wednesday.

Republicans are making stronger voter ID laws a top priority as a way to prevent fraud. Democrats say it's a partisan effort designed to boost GOP margins on election day.

Democrats blocked a similar bill in 2009, but they now face a large Republican majority in the Senate and House that is expected to quickly pass the measure.

So the Texas democRATs are officially in favor of FRAUD? The TExas Republicans need to save every one of those sound bites for the next election and ram them down the liberals throats.

We have got to get the criminals out of our governments (and usually those criminals are democrats)

The “balanced side to the story” on the radio news here in Texas always has a Dem screaming, like this article says, that this ID bill is “SO PARTISAN.”

HOW SO?

If that’s true, then it tells us all we need to know as to why this is a good bill.

I think times like that tell me that “fairness doctrine” might not be all that bad. In fact, Rush already does it. He gets libs on to talk, and they end up confirming the most outrageous accusations about themselves!

Why is it “constitutional” to have to show an I.D. to cash a check or rent a DVD but it is “unconstitutional” to ask for an I.D. when the future of the country is at stake? I don’t get it. The requirement to show an I.D. in order to vote should be a requirement in all “57” states. Our elections are a joke.

During operation chaos in 2008 I held my nose and voted for Hillary. When I attended the Democrat caucus that evening I was told that I would need to show ID to participate. When I pointed out that the Dem party does not support ID to vote but requires them for their caucus, I was told I could not enter without proving who I was. Typical.

Democrats say it's a partisan effort designed to boost GOP margins on election day.

If every state had voter ID requirements, most states would have much wider GOP margins. Fraud is rampant in most states.

In my opinion voter ID laws are more important than re-districting. Fraud has become the life blood of the democrats. In every state where Republicans won back state houses, for example Maine and NH, they should pass a voter ID law asap.

It's a knee-jerk reaction by liberals in general and Democrats in particular to claim laws requiring positive ID to vote are discriminatory. And that's as far as it goes. They never go on to explain how it discriminates against anyone, especially one group or race. There is nothing inherently discriminatory about requiring someone to prove they are that person before casting a person's vote.

If they can provide some evidence of how the voter ID mandate results in the disenfranchising of a group of voters then we can get down to solving the problem. In the absence of the proof it's just another scam by the Left to steal elections.

Pass this bill! Pass it quickly! ENFORCE it COMPLETELY!!!!!

Most people DRIVE to their polling place in order to vote, so they should already have their driver’s license on them! We just took care of 75% of the voters right there!

By law, you are required to have an ID to open a bank account in order to put YOUR OWN money into the account! Then why would you not be required to show ID when doing something that affects ALL Texans??!!??!!

Pass this bill! Pass it quickly! ENFORCE it COMPLETELY!!!!!

Gee, how often are both Democrats and Republicans right on the same issue?

One additional action MUST be taken to prevent vote fraud: EVERY PRECINCT MUST HAVE A REPUBLICAN ELECTION OFFICIAL AND POLL WATCHERS.

If there are no pubbies around to report them, the dims will simply ignore the voter ID law. Every time I am the Republican Alternate Judge in a dim precinct we get a number of people with no ID whatsoever “precinct shopping”. They claim to live in the neighborhood. If the dim Clerk at the Sign In Desk is stupid or corrupt, they just write the name provided by the perp into the Voter Roll and let them vote. Then the perp proceeds to the next precinct to try and vote again and again and again...

I have seen this happen many times with my own eyes. BTW, in the 2000 election, I was a Poll Watcher and objected when this scam was attempted. I prevented over 100 fraudulent votes. That would have represented over 10% of the ballots cast at that precinct.

The Legislature cannot do it all. It is up to us to staff ALL of the precincts to prevent fraud.

If fraud is eliminated, the dim party is toast.
